  • How many canaries is your company killing? This chat with Aubrey Blanche-Sarellano, Vice President of Equitable Operations at CultureAmp was so enlightening. In talking about the critical shifts needed to create equitable, inclusive workplaces Aubrey draws on the analogy of the canary in the coal mine that would let miners know how toxic the air was… you know, when they died. So imagine the canary in your workplace is someone from a marginalised group (or multiple). Is your DEI strategy to throw 50 more canaries into the mine and see if they survive? Or would you rather deal with the toxicity that’s wiping them out in the first place? Check out the audio teaser to get you thinking 💭 In this episode of Reimagining HR we cover: 🐦 Introduction to Aubrey Blanche-Sarellano and her philosophy of equitable design. 🐦 The failures of unconscious bias training and why it’s not enough. 🐦 The concept of equitable design vs. traditional DEI approaches. 🐦 Practical examples of auditing performance, pay, and promotion processes for equity. 🐦 Benefits of addressing systemic racism and prioritising racial equity. 🐦 When you design for equity, you get the DEI outcomes on the backend. 🐦 The emotional and cultural challenges of transforming leadership accountability. 🐦 How a CEOs commitment to DEI outcomes is directly linked to the size of the budget. 🐦 Why empathy and accountability must go hand-in-hand. 🐦 Inclusive leadership is a competency, and like empathy, it’s a skill that can be taught. 🐦 How HR leaders can start small by taking actionable, equitable steps. 🐦 The power of storytelling to drive connection and change. 🐦 Aubrey’s personal experiences with privilege and using it to drive equity. 🐦 Encouragement for HR professionals to take action, no matter their starting point. Aubrey and Trina will be re-connecting in the new year so if there are things you want explored drop a comment or DM. Especially if it comes with a hint of “you can’t ask that!”. 🎧 Find us on all major podcast platforms and the 🔗 for this specific episode and the shownotes is in the comments below. #ReimaginingHR #HRPodcast #PeoplePurposeImpact #EquitableLeadership #InclusionMatters #ReimagineHR #DiversityEquity#inclusion

What’s one small but meaningful step you can take today that’s more equitable? In our latest episode of Reimagining HR, we dive into a chat with Aubrey Blanche-Sarellano, Vice President of Equitable Operations at CultureAmp, where we talk about innovative ways HR leaders can create equitable and inclusive workplaces. Aubrey shares her story as "The Mathpath," where she combines analytical rigour with human-centred empathy to rethink systems and ensure equitable opportunities for all. Together, we discuss why unconscious bias training isn’t the solution, how equitable design reshapes DEI practices, and why prioritising racial equity is critical for meaningful change. This episode is packed with actionable insights and forward-thinking strategies, including: 💡 Practical examples of auditing performance, pay, and promotion processes for equity. 💡 Why empathy and accountability must go hand-in-hand in leadership. 💡 Steps HR leaders can take to challenge systemic barriers and drive transformation. If you’re ready to challenge traditional HR practices and take real steps toward equity, this episode is a must-listen. This conversation with Aubrey was recorded a couple of years ago and has been requested from our Reimagine HR community recently coming off the back of Trump’s re-election. In this powerful conversation, we tackle racism, #blacklivesmatter, #metoo and how systemic the biases are that elevate privilege over humanity. Two years on, this chat is more relevant and powerful than ever. Aubrey and Trina will be re-connecting in the new year so if there are things you want explored drop a comment or DM. Especially if it comes with a hint of “you can’t ask that!”. 🎧 Find us on all major podcast platforms and the 🔗 for this specific episode is in the comments below. #ReimaginingHR #HRPodcast #PeoplePurposeImpact #EquitableLeadership #InclusionMatters #ReimagineHR #DiversityEquity#Inclusion

  • Oh, look! Another inspiring post about “challenging stereotypes” and “reflecting on biases.” How groundbreaking. Meanwhile, women are being killed in record numbers, and somehow calling out disrespectful behaviour at the coffee machine hasn’t fixed it. Who knew? We’ve got policies. We’ve got training. We’ve got corporate KPIs that say we care. And yet, the headlines keep coming. It’s almost like… hear us out… we’re focusing on ticking boxes instead of tackling the deeper, harder stuff. Want real change? Stop writing another policy and start rethinking the power structures in your workplace. Stop running another workshop and start asking who’s not in the room. And maybe—just maybe—start treating gender equity as something more than a PR exercise. Because we don’t need more words. We need action. Bold, uncomfortable, system-shaking action. Let’s move past the jargon and actually do something—because lives are literally on the line. Every 10 minutes, partners and family members killed a woman or a girl intentionally in 2023. The crisis of gender-based violence is urgent. There is #NoExcuse for violence against women and girls.  Today marks the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and is an opportunity to ramp up our commitments, call for accountability and for each of us to do more. It's not 16 days of muffins, meetings and marches with nothing else being done for the rest of the year. What’s your organisation really doing to make a difference? Tell us (if you dare). 💛 Trina

  • We have been talking a lot about mental health this week, especially given the number of veterans in our networks who Trina reached out to for Remebrance Day yesterday. In our latest episode of Reimagining HR, we talk about the impact of workplace mental health with Michelle Daw, principal psychologist at Brave Heart Wellbeing. Together, we discuss how toxic work environments can affect not only our professional lives but also spill over into our personal well-being. And vice versa. Our minds never clock off.... Michelle brings a fresh perspective on how organisations can shift from simply managing mental health to truly supporting it—by creating trust, encouraging human conversations, and using curiosity as a tool for connection. From practical strategies for maintaining mental fitness to the importance of setting boundaries, this episode is a must-listen for HR professionals, leaders, and anyone looking to improve their mental health 🎧 Find us on all major podcast platforms and the 🔗 for this specific episode and the shownotes is in the comments below. #ReimaginingHR #HRPodcast #PeoplePurposeImpact #ReimagineHR #MentalHealth #WorkLifeBalance #HRLeadership

  • On this #RemembranceDay, we pause at 11am on the 11th of November to honour the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of those who have served. We remember the lives lost and the powerful qualities our service men and women exemplify — teamwork, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to a shared mission. Service personnel can teach us the strength of unity and the power of a purpose-driven team. Their ability to adapt in high-pressure environments, lead with integrity, and foster a culture of mutual respect offers lessons we can bring into our workplaces. Not always perfect, but purposeful in their quest for freedom. Our freedoms. As we remember today, let’s reflect on how we can embed these qualities to create cultures that value resilience, community, and a sense of belonging. At Reimagine HR, we honour those who serve and strive to incorporate these timeless values into the work we do every day. People. Purpose. Impact. #RemembranceDay #HRLeadership #ReimagineHR #PeoplePurposeImpact
