  • We recently farewelled our much-loved Executive Manager of Children’s Services, Deborah Lockwood, as she headed into retirement. 💐 For more than 28 years Deb supported clients through early intervention services and support. She was instrumental in advocating for, introducing and growing a range of RASA programs, including Infant Massage, Post Adoption Support Service, Together for Kids, and Ngartuitya Family Group Conferencing. Deborah has a strong commitment to social justice, and she doggedly advocated for marginalised communities throughout her career, including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice, children, Palestinians, and the LGBTQI+ community. Her passion, leadership and unwavering commitment had a lasting impact, influencing government and sector training programs to support the changing needs of South Australian families. Deborah is an inspirational leader who models heart-based listening ❤️. She discovered and backed many young people in their early career, who she leaves in her wake to continue her legacy. Deborah, we wish you all the best for this new chapter. Thank you for your incredible contribution! 🌟 We welcome Sarah Decrea as she steps into the role of Executive Manager of Children’s Services.

  • Our Ngartuitya Family Group Conferencing is featured on the ABC! Reporter Stephanie Richards explores the life-changing impact family-led decision-making has on children and families in South Australia. We thank our client from the Ngartuitya Family Group Conferencing program for generously sharing her experience. Ngartuitya, a Kaurna concept meaning ‘for the children’, reflects the program’s core focus keeping children safe with family and kin. We’re proud of the transformative change this program brings to families and communities. Where to find the story: • Click below to read the online story • Watch the ABC Adelaide News tonight at 7pm

  • It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Iain Henderson, who died last week after a brief illness.  Iain was not only RASA's longest-serving employee, with nearly 30 years of service, he was also a respected educator and cherished friend to many. Some of us first worked with him in the early 1990’s as AIDS educators and colleagues in the youth sector. Iain’s career was devoted to education and learning, particularly at COPE and RASA. He is best known through his work at the Australian Institute of Social Relations (AISR), where he taught and mentored numerous individuals, including many who now work across the sector. Originally an early childhood teacher, Iain was a passionate and creative educator, mentor, and gay activist. At AISR, he taught a wide range of subjects, from HIV and Youth Work to Counselling and Community Services, and Cultural Fitness. He was a remarkable teacher, known for his engaging style and his ability to connect with students. His playful and flamboyant personality left a lasting impression on many, and his kindness and dedication to his students and friends were evident in the numerous messages of grief and condolences we have received. So many of his students have shared how he went above and beyond to help them succeed, and it’s clear that he touched countless lives in a profound way.  Iain's passing is a shock, and a difficult time for many. Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, colleagues and all who feel his loss.

  • We were delighted to welcome the Hon. Katrine Hildyard MP, Minister for Child Protection this week to meet with senior leadership from RASA and our Ngartuitya Family Group Conferencing service. We are thrilled to acknowledge the program's success and the team, which has pioneered the use of a First Nations framework within a mainstream organisation, achieving remarkable results for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal families alike. This achievement demonstrates the significance of investing in Aboriginal leadership and harnessing the wisdom of 60,000 years of Indigenous knowledge to drive meaningful change. Effective sector transformation necessitates the integration of Aboriginal leadership in all areas.
