  • 77% of Australian healthcare IT decision-makers feel that organisations must invest in new or better technology to enhance patient outcomes, according to a report last year by SOTI.   Legacy systems and issues with IoT and telehealth devices can create disruption to patient care and frustration for those working on the frontline. The SOTI report showed over half of the healthcare organisations surveyed were using outdated technology, hindering efficiency, safety and also opening up risks to the security of sensitive data.   In a recent project, Reo Group Professional Services ‘s partner, Ali Motahari worked across the retirement of a legacy Radiology Information System, where the two decades old RIS was replaced with a modern RIS system, seamlessly migrating legacy data and integrating with the wider healthcare system.   Gap Analysis was undertaken on the existing EMR integration capabilities before delivering data governance and compliance recommendations alongside a custom integration roadmap. This roadmap included data migration into the new system, integration of new patient records, compliance for interoperability, security assessments, staff training, and decommission of the legacy system on successful completion of the project.   This project delivered significantly improved heathcare provider efficiency, resulting in better patient experiences and outcomes and far better job satisfaction and less frustration from those working with the system.   • Almost 90% of jobs advertised require a post-school qualification. Do you think a degree is a necessary requirement to succeed in a role? While many job ads still list degrees as a key requirement, the landscape may be shifting. According to LinkedIn data, recruiters search for candidates based on their skills five times more often than by their degrees. This highlights a growing focus on what you can do, rather than just what you know. The evolving nature of work, alternative education pathways, and increasing recognition of transferable skills are all contributing to this change. Industries like technology, human resources, and finance now often value hands-on experience, certifications, and technical skills as much as formal qualifications. A degree still remains to be an incredibly valuable educational foundation. Beyond the subject matter, it teaches you essential skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, time management, collaboration, and communication. However, we are increasingly seeing that a degree alone may not be enough.
