Sun’s out, lights’ on in Pakenham Over the next few weeks, the Pakenham community will see the finishing touches on the upgraded Princes Freeway interchange on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road take shape. The new traffic lights have been switched on to improve traffic flow. We’ve also opened the old bridge to southbound travel, and all ramps to and from the freeway and the exit from Peet Street to Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road. While we finish major construction on the upgraded interchange, there’ll be ongoing works and lane closures until late December while we install safety barriers and lay the top asphalt layer on the new lanes on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road. We're responsible for planning and delivering major road projects throughout Victoria.
About us
Major Road Projects Victoria is the organisation behind the State’s biggest and most important road projects. As a cornerstone of Victoria’s Big Build, we’re constructing the North East Link and West Gate Tunnel that will change the face of our transport network. We’re also delivering a host of essential projects across metropolitan and regional Victoria to reduce traffic congestion, connect communities and make our roads safer for all users. As a dedicated centre for excellence for road project delivery, our work goes far beyond the tunnels, freeways, bridges and extra lanes, with a focus on leaving a legacy that benefits communities for generations to come. We provide sustainable employment and supply chain opportunities for some of Victoria’s most disadvantaged groups and partner with all sections of the construction industry to drive an increase in the use of recycled materials. Exciting news from the 2024 Civil Contractors Federation National Earth Awards on Friday night, with one MRPV project taking home an award! Congratulations to the Pound Road West Upgrade team with construction partner Seymour Whyte and design partner SMEC who received top honours in their project category 🎉🥳 The upgrade connected Pound Road West and Remington Drive with a new bridge over the Cranbourne rail line and added an extra lane each way between Abbotts Road and South Gippsland Highway. The Civil Contractors Federation Earth Awards recognise excellence in project delivery across a broad base of criteria, including construction, management, quality, safety, environment, training, innovation, sustainability, and more. Projects are awarded in categories based on project value. A big shoutout to Marc Peterson and his project team, as well as everyone across Major Road Projects Victoria who contributed to these incredible achievements.

Our Ison Road Overpass team recently installed 30 reinforced concrete beams over the Geelong-Melbourne railway line, effectively creating the structural form for the project’s bridge. The team used a massive 650-tonne crawler crane to lift and place the beams onto the bridge’s central crosshead and abutments over a 10-day program of works. Crews will now begin to build the bridge deck as we continuing to work towards helping Wyndham West link up with the Princes Freeway! The Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade was completed earlier this year in Melbourne’s south east thanks to the dedication of the project team and our construction partner McConnell Dowell. This upgrade added almost 10km of new lanes and 9km of walking and cycling paths, and achieved social, economic and environmental outcomes too, including: ✅ 41,100+ Aboriginal employment hours ✅ 46,100+ trainee, cadet, apprentice employment hours ✅ 142,000+ priority jobseeker employment hours. Motorists can now use Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road to travel north from South Gippsland Highway, reducing traffic on Cranbourne’s High Street and improving travel through Cranbourne. Watch to find out more from some of the project’s leaders. #Construction #Roads #Infrastructure #RoadUpgrades #RoadSafety City of Casey, Eason Lin, Rihana Jamali, Tim Smith

External factors such as inaccurate records and maps, unforeseen landscape changes and human error contribute to service strikes across our industry. Major Road Projects Victoria, together with North East Link, are working closely with construction partners to continuously improve processes and practices aimed at eliminating underground service strikes, which impact local communities, cause disruptions, delay project completion, and increase costs. Hear more from CEO, Duncan Elliott, and contractors Spark North East Link Tunnels D&C and BildGroup about our commitment in the video below.
