Keeping Families Close

About us

When a child is seriously ill, it can disrupt every aspect of family life – from school and work, to everyday moments like mealtimes, bath times, playtimes and quality time. This can have a devastating effect on the whole family. Ronald McDonald House Charities® helps family life carry on while a child is undergoing treatment. For nearly 40 years we’ve helped Australian families through some of their most difficult times. Our Programs include: Ronald McDonald House - Our Houses offer families a place to stay close to the hospital. They are especially helpful for families who have to travel far to receive treatment for their child. All accommodation is equipped with everything families need to feel supported during their stay. Ronald McDonald Family Rooms - Our Family Rooms are located close to children’s wards. They give families a chance to recharge after many stressful hours at their child’s side. Each room is equipped with areas to sleep, eat, freshen up, play and relax. Ronald McDonald Learning Program - Our tailored one-to-one tuition help kids keep up with schoolwork so that they feel confident when they get back to school. Ronald McDonald Family Retreats - Our Family Retreats give families a chance to forget the stresses of hospital life. They’re open to families with a seriously ill child, or those grieving the loss of a child, who might not have the time or finances to take a much-needed break. Ronald McDonald Care Mobile - Our Care Mobile brings care to children in remote and rural NSW, in partnership with Royal Far West. It ensures distance isn’t a barrier to receiving early intervention services for children in these areas.

  • What an incredible McHappy Day! Last Saturday, we were once again humbled by the unwavering support of McDonald's, their amazing crew, loyal customers, and the entire Aussie community. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed – whether by volunteering, rocking silly socks and bucket hats, or making a donation. Thanks to YOU, for the second year in a row, over $6 MILLION was raised to support families through RMHC! 🙌 McDonald's has been with us from the beginning, and remains our founding and forever partner. We truly couldn’t do what we do without the dedication of their team and the generosity of their customers. Together, we’re making a lasting impact! 💛

That’s a wrap on McHappy Day for 2024!   Each year, McDonald's restaurants across Australia host McHappy Day, the largest annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia – and this year we are proud to have raised an incredible $6.03 million dollars, which is the equivalent to 37,687 nights at a Ronald McDonald House!   When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness or injury, it impacts the whole family, and lives can be turned upside down. That’s why Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) provide a range of programs to help families stay together and close to the care they need while undergoing treatment or surgery in hospital.    We’re so thankful for our Customers, Crew, Franchisees, Ambassadors, Elected Officials, Community Groups, Sponsorship Partners, Suppliers, and everyone else who joined us not only on the day, but also in the lead up by purchasing Grimace and McNugget Buddies Fold-Down Silly Socks, a Reversible Bucket Hat or a Helping Hand from their local Macca’s restaurant, with 100% of profits going to RMHC.   Aussies were also able to feel good and do good by ordering one of our iconic Big Macs, with $2 from every Big Mac sold individually or as part of a meal going directly to RMHC. All funds raised will make an enormous difference to the lives of thousands of families across Australia.   Check out some highlights from the incredible day below.

  • Tomorrow is McHappy Day, the biggest annual fundraiser for the charity, hosted by our Founding and Forever partner McDonald's. We'd like to encourage you to head in-store and donate by purchasing a pair of silly socks, a helping hand, or tomorrow only, through purchasing a Big Mac where $2 is donated directly to RMHC. We're so proud to be there for families when they need us most. Hear a little more from our CEO Barbara Ryan about why your support matters now more than ever.

  • 🌟 What a fantastic experience at the recent Amart Furniture Conference! 🌟 Our National Corporate Partnerships Managers, Amy Holton and Sophie Smith alongside some team members from RMHC Australia, had the opportunity to attend and connect with attendees about the impactful work we do at RMHC. It was a great chance to share how we support families in need and the positive difference we’re making together. A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat and learn more about our mission. We’re grateful for the ongoing partnerships that help us continue to provide care, comfort, and hope to families when they need it most 💙 In total Amart raised an incredible $130,000 for RMHC to support families when they need it most. Amy said "this is such an amazing partnership thanks to the incredible passion, dedication and support of Amart, their staff and suppliers. Over the past 9 years, you continue to go above and beyond with new initiatives and ways of supporting our families and we could not be more proud to call Amart a Platinum Partner of RMHC Australia."

  • Last week our Safeguarding Support Manager, Kylie Johnson spent time with the dedicated team at Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia (RMHC WA), leading essential Safeguarding Children and Young People sessions for volunteers and staff. The focus of these sessions? Building safe, supportive environments where children feel secure and valued. Maintaining physical boundaries training explored the importance of respectful interactions, equipping participants with practical tools and guidelines to maintain safe physical boundaries in a professional setting. Together, they tackled real-life scenarios, reinforcing a culture of trust, safety, and positive relationships. In the challenging conversations session, Kylie guided participants through handling sensitive disclosures from children and young people. They discussed active listening, empathy, and best practices for creating a safe space, recognizing signs of distress, and responding appropriately—always with safeguarding protocols in mind.

  • Charlie Bell became the first Australian CEO of the Global McDonald’s system when he was appointed in 2004. He was an inspirational leader, and longtime supporter of RMHC. After a courageous battle with cancer he has left behind a legacy that allows many young Australians to follow their dreams, just like he did. Part of this legacy includes the RMHC Charlie Bell Scholarship; thirteen scholarships are awarded annually across Australia, supporting young people to continue their education with a grant of up to $5000.  Since 2006 the scholarship has supported hundreds of students to continue their education – a few who are pictured 💛🏆 You can find out more about this scholarship on our website here: https://lnkd.in/giUsJ22 Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia (RMHC WA) Ronald McDonald House Charities Victoria & Tasmania Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland
