🔥🔥 Series 4 : Fire Compliance 🔥🔥 Steel products used in fire-rated walls and ceilings must comply with NCC Specification C2D9 to meet fire safety standards. Our 15-month investigation found no evidence that importers had tested their steel products for fire compliance with plasterboard in accordance with NCC Specification C2D9. Some imported steel products claimed equivalency to Rondo steel based on yield and ultimate strength, but our testing revealed differences in base metal thickness (BMT), which is crucial for fire performance. As leading plasterboard manufacturers and joint venture owners of Rondo, both CSR and Knauf used Rondo steel in their fire test reports, which includes the steel BMT. The variations revealed in the imported products we tested mean they are not equivalent to the Rondo steel used in Knauf and CSR fire test reports and are therefore non-compatible. 🔗 VIEW DETAILS AND FINDINGS HERE: https://bit.ly/416Rbe7 #Rondo #RondoSteel #CuttingCorners #Compliance

🔍 Series 3 : Comparison to Rondo Our 15-month investigation into imported steel exposed claims from some suppliers promoting their products as ‘equivalent’ or ‘the same as’ Rondo. Rigorous testing in an independent laboratory has proven otherwise. Our findings show significant differences in base metal thickness, zinc coating, structural shape, and manufacturing tolerances—key elements Rondo engineers rely on in their calculations to achieve NCC compliance and meet recommendations in Australian Standards. These differences highlight that the imported products tested are therefore not equivalent and should not be used where Rondo has been specified. In Series 3, we provide a guide to assessing and verifying the compliance, quality, and durability of steel components by providing the questions to ask and key factors to look for — ensuring your walls and ceilings are built with high-quality, compliant and durable steel components. 🔗 VIEW DETAILS AND FINDINGS HERE: https://bit.ly/4fkPcak #Rondo#RondoSteel#CuttingCorners#Complanice

Series 2 🏗️: Zinc Coatings for Corrosion Protection No one wants rust in their walls and ceilings. Zinc coatings are essential for protecting steel from corrosion, acting as a sacrificial layer to ensure a longer-lasting product. Over a 15-month investigation, we found most imported wall and ceiling products we tested had a significantly thinner zinc coating — which may be a way of cutting costs. Some of our findings: • All tested Furring Channels failed to meet the recommendations outlined in AS/NZS 2785:2020 for internal and external ceilings • Light Gauge Steel Stud and Tracks tested had 99-122 g/m2 of zinc coating applied • Heavy Gauge Deflection Head Tracks tested (typically installed in external wall applications) only had a zinc coating of 171-179 g/m2 🔗 VIEW ZINC COATING DETAILS AND FINDINGS HERE: https://bit.ly/3Yvjuje

Series 1 Recap 🏗️ Base Metal Thickness (BMT) Our 15-month investigation into imported steel products highlights the need to assess and verify the compliance, quality, and durability of steel components used in your project or home. An important consideration is the steel BMT. To ensure NCC compliance with AS/NZS 4600, the uncoated minimum steel thickness at any point in the cold-formed product, as delivered to the job site, be at least 95% of the thickness used in its design. One importer’s own published test data which is publicly available online in their Technical Manual reveals some of their steel wall components range between 88% to 94% of their specified BMT. Our testing revealed some stud and tracks as low as 85% and furring channels 90-92% of their specified BMT. 🔗 VIEW DETAILS AND FINDINGS HERE: https://bit.ly/4ebYrs4 #Rondo#RondoSteel#CuttingCorners#Compliance
