Today is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, a day promote stigma reduction, encourage help seeking, and honour the memories of those lost to suicide, those who have survived suicide attempts, and those who bear the weight of grief. This year's theme is “We all have a role to play,” echoing the International Association for Suicide Prevention's overarching theme of “Creating hope through action.” Together, let’s take a moment to raise awareness, offer support, and spread hope. Since 1967, the annual celebrations of International Literacy Day (ILD) have taken place on 8 September around the world to remind policy-makers, practitioners, and the public of the critical importance of literacy for creating more literate, just, peaceful, and sustainable society. This year, ILD will be celebrated under the theme of "Promoting multilingual education: Literacy for mutual understanding and peace". In today’s world, in which multilingualism is a common practice for many, empowering people by adopting a first language-based, multilingual approach to literacy development and education is particularly effective for its cognitive, pedagogical, and socio-economic benefits. Supporting education is one of Rotary International's seven areas of focus. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults. #Rotaract #RotaractAustralia #Rotary #RotaryInternational

Today we celebrate the International Day of Charity! The International Day of Charity was established with the objective of sensitising and mobilising people, NGOs, and stakeholders all around the world to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities. The date of 5 September was chosen in order to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 "for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace. Rotaractors create positive and lasting change in themselves, their local community, and around the world by volunteering and fundraising for various causes. #Rotaract #RotaractAustralia #Rotary #RotaryInternational #InternationalDayOfCharity

Happy Wear It Purple Day! 💜 For young people who identify as LGBTQIA+, this year's theme “Your Passion, Your Pride” is an empowering and affirming rally cry to express their true selves to the world and chase their dreams. It’s time for rainbow youth to see and feel a positive surge in successful, happy role models from the LGBTQIA+ community who are living proof it’s possible. By wearing purple, we demonstrate to LGBTQIA+ young people that they are celebrated and respected, acknowledging that all have the right to be proud of who they are and who they are becoming. One of Rotary's seven areas of focus is fighting disease. Disease results in misery, pain, and poverty for millions of people worldwide. That’s why treating and preventing disease is so important to us. We lead efforts both large and small. Almost 300,000 people in Australia are living with hepatitis B or hepatitis C, with about six people in Victoria alone dying every week of hepatitis-related causes—more than the State’s road toll. They shouldn’t have to. Hepatitis B has effective treatment and a vaccine. Hepatitis C has a cure and is preventable. #TakeActionAustralia for #WorldHepatitisDay! #Rotaract #RotaractAustralia #Rotary #RotaryInternational

One of Rotary's seven areas of focus is protecting the environment. We are committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. National Tree Day is a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to their community. Each year, around 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage in environmental activities that educate Australians about the world around them. #Rotaract #RotaractAustralia #Rotary #RotaryInternational
