The South Australian Alcohol and Other Drug Sector Workforce Development Framework 2025-2032 outlines opportunities to strengthen and develop the workforce across government and non-government services. A sustainable and skilled workforce that can meet the needs of those impacted by alcohol and other drug use is essential to deliver high-quality services and programs. The Framework reflects the State Government’s commitment to partnering with the non-government alcohol and other drug sector on workforce strategy and planning, finding solutions to address critical workforce shortages. Together we can create a workforce that is developed, supported, collaborative, and delivers high quality care for our community. In 2023, we surveyed over 4,000 people from across the state to find out about their experience staying overnight in one of our hospitals. The feedback we received is presented in the SA Health Measuring Consumer Experience 2024 Report which is now available on our website. The report outlines what we’re doing well and where we need to improve. It’s a great way to compare our care with other hospital systems around Australia and the world. 2024 reporting shows that almost 93% of patients would recommend an SA Health hospital to a relative or friend, compared to 90.7% in 2022. The overall results reflect the ongoing dedication and hard work of our staff as we strive to deliver the best possible health services and hospital experience – where every patient’s needs, values and preferences are respected. South Australia Medical Imaging (SAMI) has introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to advance the reading of chest X-rays. The new technology will assist in identifying areas of interest in chest images and suggesting potential diagnoses, serving as a powerful tool to enhance their expertise and efficiency. Radiologists will then review the suggested diagnoses and make the final decision on further treatment options. The analysis software has been introduced across all SAMI sites, including six metropolitan and four regional hospitals in South Australia. With over 700,000 radiology examinations each year, the technology will assist over 1,000 professionals in setting a new standard in patient care and safety.
