We welcomed Premier Peter Malinauskas, Minister for infrastructure and Transport the Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP, and Member for Adelaide Lucy Hood MP, to our Adelaide Aquatic Centre development site last week, giving them a firsthand look at the progress on this landmark project. Construction is advancing steadily and we're seeing great progress on the western edge, where vertical precast and steelwork are shaping the centre’s distinctive curved entry. The new internal pools are well underway with the structural walls for the learn-to-swim and 50m pools complete, and we are currently progressing through the warm water pool, setting a strong foundation for Adelaide’s future aquatic hub. We recently had the pleasure of welcoming the Yartapuulti Squad from Port Adelaide Athletics Club on a tour of Yitpi Yartapuultiku Cultural Destination in Port Adelaide. This special event, part of our ongoing community outreach, provided key stakeholders with a behind the scenes look at our work in constructing the Yitpi Yartapuultiku centre. Seeing the children's enthusiasm as they learned about the project is a testament to the positive impact this space will have. The tour offered a glimpse of what’s taking shape — a safe and inclusive place designed with a variety of experiences for children to explore, grow, and foster a sense of belonging. Inspired by Kaurna cultural knowledge and wisdom, the welcoming space will enable authentic Aboriginal storytelling, such as the Seven Sisters cultural narrative woven through the site: “The seven circles of the roof design connect the Kaurna and cultural story of the Seven Sisters, which is shared across many Aboriginal Nations and cultures across the world. This narrative is one of deep connection with the Lands, Skies and waters. The Seven Sisters is a constellation of the Pleiades star cluster known as Mankamankarrarna in the Kaurna Language. It is an ancient story of seven women collecting reeds and berries and the enduring presence of women’s strength, wisdom and continuity of life. It highlights elements of respect, resilience and gender balance, as it also links with the 7 springs of Tjilbruke’s tears created as he wailed for his nephew along SA’s Southern coastline”. - Mickey Kumatpi O'Brien. October is National Safe Work Month, with this year’s theme, "Safety is everyone’s business.” At Sarah, we’re committed to ensuring every task is planned with safety in mind to achieve our goal of zero harm. The National Safe Work Month initiative, shared across all sectors, is a crucial reminder to the construction industry—where risks are high—that we all play a part in keeping each other safe. Throughout October, our QHSE team has been leading workshops on key safety topics, including WHS Fundamentals, Psychosocial Hazards, Risk Management, Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention, and Precast Lifting Awareness. Yesterday, Marcus Rigney from Load 28 Crane Hire|Construction|Access facilitated our Precast Lifting Awareness workshop. We’ve worked closely with Marcus on several training sessions over the years, and we were proud to present him with a Certificate of Appreciation for his ongoing commitment to educating our industry. Tonsley Technical College/Factory of the Future Project Manager Hanan Jamal was recently invited to present at the national Timber Construct Conference in Melbourne. Alongside the project’s architect Sam Green from Das Studio, engineer Jarvis Anderson from INNOVIS Consulting, GLT manufacturer Danny Watson from Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH) and installer Chris Wood Standstruct, Hanan shared how Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) and Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) is being used throughout the new education facilities in Tonsley’s innovation precinct. Hanan says, “This project is the first mass timber development in South Australia to feature a (GLT) structure including beams, columns, and trusses, as well as slabs constructed from (CLT). Both GLT and CLT are highly sustainable and durable materials, offering strength comparable to steel and concrete. I hope that our presentation challenged some of the misconceptions around engineered timber products compared to traditional building materials. Tonsley is Australia’s first innovation district, and home to some of South Australia’s best and brightest minds. The new facility will be home to the Tonsley Technical College, a Department for Education, South Australia (DfE) initiative supporting students to complete the SACE while undertaking vocational education and training (VET) to help address the state’s skills shortages, including in the construction industry. The project also includes the Flinders University expansion of Factory of the Future – a world class advanced manufacturing facility designed to bring together industry, education and researchers. Sarah Constructions is proud to be the project’s construction partner, continuing a long relationship delivering world-class facilities for both DfE and Flinders University. Designed by Das Studio, the building is South Australia's first mass GLT & CLT project in the state, with the 4000m2 building’s columns, beams and floors constructed entirely of this innovative product, supplied by NeXTimber (by Timberlink) and Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH), a local leader in sustainable construction materials. Led by Project Manager Hanan Jamal, our team is working closely with industry partners including Turner & Townsend , Rider Levett Bucknall RLB, WSP in Australia, INNOVIS Consulting, dsquared Consulting, and BuildSurv to deliver a project that will provide long-term benefits for South Australia’s economy and workforce. We are thrilled to share a major milestone for our Tonsley Technical College + Factory of the Future project - Last week, we celebrated the official topping out ceremony! The ancient tradition marks the placement of the final structural element at a building's highest point. Over time, it has evolved into a powerful symbol of appreciation for the efforts of everyone involved in bringing a project to life. It represents progress, good fortune, and a sense of achievement. In keeping with the ethos of the project, an innovative, bespoke tree, crafted with NeXTimber by Timberlink from South Australia, was placed at the top to honour the tradition. We were proud to mark this special moment alongside our dedicated tradespeople, teams from Das Studio, INNOVIS Consulting, NeXTimber (by Timberlink), Standstruct, Turner & Townsend, dsquared Consulting, Flinders University, Rider Levett Bucknall RLB, WSP in Australia, Department for Education, South Australia, Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH), and Nadia Clancy MP. We are proud to share the completion of a significant upgrade at Stella Maris Parish School, home to over 350 staff and students from Reception to Year 6. Engaged by Catholic Education South Australia (CESA), our team had the privilege of transforming the campus to better serve its growing community. The project centered around replacing the existing single-storey administration building with a new, modern two-storey Administration and Learning Hub. This dynamic addition, now the heart of the school, offers a welcoming ground floor with a reception area, boardroom, administration offices, general learning areas, and breakout space. The light-filled first floor provides a staff room, music room, additional breakout areas, and classrooms. Delivered under a Managing Contractor arrangement, this project highlights our team's ability to manage complex design and program challenges while staying true to our commitment to quality, safety, and collaboration.
