About us
The South Australian State School Leaders Association (SASSLA) was established in 2001 by a group of passionate school leaders who understood that the legal and employment related support they required to be successful in their role was not forthcoming from other sources. Our membership is open to all leaders employed by the Department for Education as Education Director, Principal, Preschool Director, Deputy Principal, Assistant Principal or Senior Leader (Band B3 or above in all schools, including Band B2 in standalone Primary Schools). Others in leadership positions or support services in the Department may apply for membership if they have previously held a substantive school or preschool leadership role. Please see our website for more information and to join online. The Association has rapidly grown to over 500 members today; now the largest representative body of public school leaders in the State. Our core services to members include: legal assistance, HR consultancy, policy development and advocacy, guidance and support, and online collaboration and learning. Our members also receive free journey insurance.

🤝 Yesterday, Phil met with Amanda Josephs, Preschool Director of Lobethal Community Kindergarten, along with Kate Ryan from the Preschool Directors Association. 👉 SASSLA and the PDA have designed an ECW reclassification tool which assists with the collection of evidence and validation against the classification criteria for ECW-1 and ECW-2. We are currently conducting a trial of this tool which will help us assess its effectiveness and build the capability of Directors in classification assessment processes. 📩 Contact SASSLA if you are a Preschool Director and are interested in being part of the project admin@sassla.au

😊 Out and about with SASSLA 🥰 It was lovely to receive a thank you gift from Tricia Richman and the leadership team at Whyalla. Phil has been working collaboratively with Whyalla Secondary College this year to develop a proposal for future staffing and collaborative engagement tailored to Whyalla's needs. This work has been presented to the Minister. 🤝 Phil also visited Nick Papadopoulos at Fulham North Primary last week. Thanks for the discussion and school visit Nick!

👇 Read SASSLA’s Band A Labour Market Analysis which is now available on our website. ✅ The development of a future scenario of the functioning of the Band A labour market is a valuable tool to assess risks and weigh up countervailing policy options. It provides important information on how to approach topical policy areas including the current proposal to offer Band A positions as permanent roles. ⚠ Under the scenario presented, candidate supply conditions for Band A school leaders will remain challenging for the foreseeable future. Further deterioration of conditions is more likely than improvement. Preschool Director market conditions are likely to deteriorate in the medium term due to internal supply pressures and increased intersectoral competition due to future government investment in early education in South Australia and other States.
