Representing the Professional Scaffolding Industry in Australia

About us

The SAA was formed in 2022 after previously being a Queensland state-based association, the Scaffolding Association Queensland (SAQ). The SAQ was formed in 1994 to increase the level of professionalism in an industry too often ignored or misrepresented in the building process. Our mission has not changed, we are here to represent our members and be their voice in the construction industry. We help guide them in managing, operating and growing their business. Since 1994, the SAQ, now the SAA has helped members enhance and expand their businesses by providing support and advice in business management and processes, as well as updates on technological advances in the scaffolding industry, new product information and updates to scaffolding legislation.

  • Scaffolding near powerlines? Look up and Live. The Look up and Live app provides information on overhead powerlines, including their locations, voltages, and who owns them, making it easy for you to find the correct authority to contact whilst planning your scaffolding work before you attend the site. The Look up and Live app is available on the Apple App store or Google Play store. #scaffolding #powerlines #lookupandlive #ScaffoldingAssociationAu

  • The Scaffolding Association Australia (SAA) is a supporter of the "Look Up and Live" message. Always take care and assume overhead powerlines are live and potentially dangerous. Planning is crucial to working safely around power lines. All scaffolders working near powerlines should initially refer to their local State Scaffold Code of Practice or guidelines as well as be aware of Section 3.2 Proximity to Powerlines in AS 4576:2020 Guidelines for Scaffolding which outlines the following: ⚡ Powerlines are a potential hazard to persons erecting, working from or in the vicinity of a scaffold. ⚡ Contact the electricity supply authority for information before erecting, using and dismantling scaffolding in close proximity to powerlines. ⚡ For voltages of 11kV or less “close proximity” is typically a minimum clearance of 4m between powerlines and the adjacent scaffolding but may vary depending on electricity supply authority requirements. ⚡ The fitting of non-conductive materials on the outer face of the scaffold adjacent to powerlines may be required by the electricity supply authority. ⚡ Metallic fixings should not protrude through the face of the non-conductive material towards powerlines. The Look up and Live app provides information on overhead powerlines, including their locations, voltages, and who owns them, making it easy for you to find the correct authority to contact whilst planning your scaffolding work before you attend the site. The Look up and Live app is available on the Apple App store or Google Play store. • The Scaffolding Association Australia (SAA) is very happy to announce that we have received confirmation from Standards Australia that we now have a participating member seat on the BD-092 Temporary Edge Protection Committee. The BD-092 Temporary Edge Protection Committee is a technical committee established by Standards Australia, the nation’s peak body for developing standards. This committee focuses on the development and maintenance of standards related to temporary edge protection systems. These systems are used in construction, maintenance, and industrial activities to prevent falls from heights and ensure worker safety. Key Functions of BD-092: 1. Standards Development: Create and revise standards that outline the requirements for designing, testing, and installing temporary edge protection systems. Ensure compliance with safety, durability, and usability criteria. 2. Harmonisation with International Standards: Align Australian standards with global benchmarks, such as ISO or EN standards, to support interoperability and safety best practices. 3. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with industry professionals, manufacturers, engineers, and safety experts to address emerging risks and innovations. 4. Regulatory Support: Provide guidance to meet or exceed workplace health and safety (WHS) laws and regulations in Australia. 5. Risk Mitigation: Address specific hazards related to falls from roofs, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms by setting performance and testing criteria. The committee plays a vital role in safeguarding workers by ensuring that edge protection systems are effective, reliable, and compliant with evolving safety needs. If you're working in scaffolding or construction, understanding and adhering to these standards is essential for legal compliance and maintaining workplace safety. The SAA will use our membership base to provide us with feedback on any Australian Standard that relates to temporary edge protection so that the standards that impact the scaffolding industry are reasonable and consider the opinions of our scaffolding company members. We are very pleased to now have participating member seats on both the BD-036 Scaffolding and BD-092 Temporary Edge Protection committees, meaning our members are kept up to date and have influence over standards that relate to our industry. #advocate #members #standardsaustralia #edgeprotection #scaffolding #ScaffoldingAssociationAu

  • 🏆 QUEENSLAND'S BEST SCAFFOLDING PROJECT! 🏆 The WINNER of Queensland's Best Scaffolding project is Benchmark Scaffolding with their Batman Bridge Stage 2 project! The Benchmark Scaffolding project involved the installation and dismantling of scaffolding for the Stage 2 works on Batman Bridge. This project was unique due to the scaffolding being suspended 60 meters above the bridge deck, supported by a custom-fabricated grillage bolted into the bridge's structure. The installation utilised helicopters to lift the scaffolding into position in three parts, allowing for a complex design that followed the curvature of the bridge mast. Electric winches facilitated the movement of scaffolding materials from an overhead gantry, ensuring that the road beneath remained open throughout the operation. Following the completion of the initial scaffolding, independent swing stages were hung from the grillage to accommodate painting, requiring precise programming and calibration of motors to manage their operation at varying speeds. Congratulations to Kevin McNab and the entire team at Benchmark Scaffolding for winning Queensland's best scaffolding project of the year! #bestproject #queensland #australia #benchmarkscaffolding #scaffoldingassociationau
