What do the green and red buoys mean? While the colors remain the same worldwide, the orientation of the buoys differs from region to region. In Region B areas, like North America, green buoys have a can top and indicate the port side (left) while the red buoys have a nun top indicating the starboard side (right) when returning from open water.
