About us
Sefa was established in 2011 when it was selected by the Australian Government to receive funding from its Social Enterprise Development and Investment Fund (SEDIF). On top of the $10 million grant, another $10 million was raised via equity investors and lenders. Since establishment, Sefa has unlocked more than $120 million of capital from the impact investing sector. The Sefa team has disbursed $45 million in loans through 60 deals. Sefa’s work continues across impact areas including crisis & affordable housing, education, arts, community enterprises, Indigenous and disability organisations. Sefa joined the growing community of B Corp certified companies in August 2015. Though distinct entities Sefa works closely and collaboratively with Sefa Partnerships and shares a joint strategy for the continued growth of purpose-driven organisations across Australia and the impact ecosystem.

At Sefa, we know that many women and gender-diverse people continue to face barriers to economic participation, leadership, and capital. That’s not just an equity issue—it’s a lost opportunity for innovation, resilience, and lasting social change. That’s why we’ve embedded a gender lens approach into our work, from investment decisions to capability-building. We’re proud to share our Gender Statement, outlining how we actively challenge inequality and drive systems change. We know that embedding a gender lens is a journey —one that requires learning, accountability, and action. This statement isn’t just for us. It’s an invitation to funders, enterprises, and changemakers to join us in building a more just and inclusive future. Sefa reposted this
**Seeking donations urgently to help a resilient organisation pushed to the brink** My work brings me in contact with many incredible community organisations doing vital work around the country, including Corryong Neighbourhood Centre in the VIC Upper Murray area. The CNC had its state government funding pulled just before Christmas last year (heartbreaking) and it now has just 9 DAYS to raise $500k to avoid falling into insolvency. Not only does the CNC employ 23 people, it is the sole source of several important services supporting the local community, including Centrelink and VicRoads, an amazing youth program (with learner driving services and a dedicated drop-in space), and a huge variety of other things when people come in and say "I need help". So the town is really going to feel it if the Centre is forced to close its doors. They have worked so hard to get back on their feet after the 1-2 punches of Black Summer bushfires and then Covid, but this would be the last straw. The CNC is accepting contributions at https://lnkd.in/gSwURXBQ. The ABC has done a write-up which you can read here: https://lnkd.in/gTevBHM3 #socialenterprise #community
