Teaching the World to See.

About us

Sight For All is a charitable organisation based in Adelaide whose voluntary team of eye care professionals is dedicated to fighting avoidable blindness in our own community and in developing countries where 90% of the world's blind live. Throughout the world there are 270 million people who have poor vision due to eye disease or a lack of glasses. There are a further 45 million who are blind. Most have severely limited educational and employment opportunities and none can see the faces of their families or friends. The impact of blindness on the individuals, the family and the community is far reaching but the socio-economic impact on a developing country can be immense. Alleviating blindness will go a long way toward eliminating poverty in many countries and is a cause worth fighting for. Sight For All's team comprises over 1000 ophthalmologists, optometrists, ophthalmic nurses and scientists from all over Australia and New Zealand. Sight For All's mission is 'To determine the magnitude and causes of blindness in partner communities in order to prioritise eye health projects' and 'To ensure eye care professionals have the necessary knowledge, skills and equipment and their communities have the necessary awareness, so that sustainable solutions to blindness can be addressed'. Sight For All's projects are provided free of charge to our partner countries and communities and are based on four key strategies - - Collaborative Research - Infrastructure Support - Sustainable Education - Eye Health Awareness

"I am most proud of teaching ophthalmology trainees at the Royal Adelaide Hospital for over 40 years and establishing the neuro-ophthalmology training and in-country Fellowships with Sight For All". These words were shared by Prof John Crompton, reflecting on his ophthalmology career that spanned four decades. Prof Crompton has been a Visionary and supporter of Sight For All since our establishment in 2009. Since then and as the Lead Visionary for Neuro-Ophthalmology, Prof Crompton has guided and mentored 16 Fellows from Vietnam, Mongolia, Myanmar and Cambodia. As Prof Crompton commences his retirement we take this opportunity to pass on our thanks for his wisdom, guidance and generosity of time provided over the past 15 years. Happy Retirement Prof Crompton. The Sight For All Visionaries, team members and Fellows will miss you! #teaching #sightforall #visionaries

  • Morokot was born premature and suffered from preventable eye conditions. Without the intervention of Sight For All trained doctors, she would be blind.“My children are my life. If I could give her my eyes, I would,” expressed her mother, with tears of joy at newfound hope for her daughter’s sight. You can help someone like Morokot today, by giving to our World Sight Day campaign. Go to https://lnkd.in/gFNSdhu3 Vision Eye Institute ZEISS Group Bausch + Lomb Inservio

  • Sight For All Visionary and all round good guy, Doctor Kim Tan, was recently in Papua New Guinea to begin teaching PNG's first paediatric ophthalmologist, Dr Maggie Mangot. During Dr Tan's visit he encountered twin babies who, with intervention, would likely not have gone blind. Sight For All is working to change the lives of families by teaching doctors to identify and treat preventable eye disease. Together we can make a difference. Donate: https://lnkd.in/gFNSdhu3 Inservio
