Australians are the world’s top fashion consumers, buying 56 items annually on average. While secondhand shopping is growing, fast fashion still dominates, driven by trends and low prices. Solutions like France’s fast fashion tax could curb overconsumption and support sustainable practices here. As a business focused on clothing and textile repair, we believe incentivising longevity and repair, is key. Let's rethink how we shop—and repair—to reduce our environmental impact. https://lnkd.in/geam9NPH #CircularEconomy #SustainableFashion #repairrevolution

It is National Recycling Week, always the second week of November, and this year from November 11 to 17. We support schemes that increase consumer awareness about sustainability and how we can all contribute to a brighter future but before recycling there are some many other 'R's', including repairing!!! We here are Sisko are all about repairing, with FabPatch, because keeping textiles (and of course other resources) in use for longer, before they are recycled at their extended end of life, is so much better for the environment. What are you doing for National Recycling Week? https://lnkd.in/dhBCr_7

We are thrilled to share that we are a proud supported of Seamless - Australia's pioneering clothing stewardship scheme. By joining this amazing initiative, we're joining forces with other responsible leaders across the industry to make clothing more sustainable. Together with all of the Seamless members and supporters, we are committed to reducing the 200,000 tonnes of textile waste that ends ups in landfill each year and achieving a circular clothing industry by 2030. Join us by celebrating this exciting new chapter for our organisation and for Australia. #seamless #sustainablefashion #circulareconomy #clothingcircularity

Sophie, our Design Manager, attended this great networking event a couple of weeks ago. It is so important to meet and share with other like minded people in the circular economy. We can't wait for the next event Circuiti - bring it!
While the circular economy has value in eliminating waste and reducing emissions, it also has value in creating community. And with community, comes hope for a better future. Explore these insights we discovered and more when we ran our recent event "Building Impactful Connections: Circular Business Mixer".

This is exciting news! The report - Keeping clothes out of landfill: A landscape study of Australian consumer practices (published Oct 2 2024) - conducted by RMIT University and commissioned by the Kmart Group and the Queensland Government, is a study of 3,080 Australians explored how they acquired, used and disposed of their clothing. Here is the exciting data about REPAIR! About one in three consumers preferred to repair clothing themselves or take it to a professional repairer, particularly if they had paid a higher price or felt emotionally attached. Payne said Australians were open to repairing their clothes but often did not know how. “We need clothing education programs, focused on boosting Australians’ clothing repair skills and confidence,” she said. “This could be through supporting initiatives such as community repair cafes and embedding skills into school curriculums.” Thanks to the authors Alice Payne Mark Leenders Ninh Nguyen Simon Pervan Paige Street Carol Tan Xinru (Angie) Jiang for making our FabPatch day! https://lnkd.in/gxE_UxiK
