Supporting migrant, refugee and asylum-seeker women to become economically empowered. #WorkEmpowersWomen

About us

SisterWorks is a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to empowering women from migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker backgrounds through employment, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion. Since 2013, we have supported over 3,000 women from 105 countries. Driven by the belief that every woman deserves economic independence, SisterWorks offers job readiness training, mentorship, and a marketplace for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products. Through these resources, we help women build the skills, confidence, and networks they need to succeed. Guided by our values of respect, inclusion, and empowerment, we work to dismantle barriers and create opportunities where women can thrive—both in the workforce and in their communities. By providing a strong support system, we foster an environment where every woman can realise her potential and make a meaningful contribution to the broader economy.

  • The numbers speak for themselves, but behind every figure is a woman empowered, a life transformed, and a step closer to economic independence. None of this would have been possible without your support, and for that, we say a heartfelt thank you. Here’s to the strength of our Sisters and the power of a community united by purpose. #ThankYou #SisterWorks #WorkEmpowersWomen #EmpowerWomen #SocialImpact #TogetherWeThrive

  • On #InternationalMigrantsDay, we pause to reflect on the remarkable resilience, courage, and strength of migrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers around the world. Today, we honour the millions of people who leave their homes in search of safety, a better life, and new opportunities for themselves and their families. Migration is a global experience that shapes societies, economies, and cultures. It’s a journey full of challenges, but it also creates diverse, vibrant communities that contribute to the richness of our collective future. Whether driven by conflict, persecution, or the pursuit of opportunity, migrants play a vital role in strengthening our social fabric. At SisterWorks, we are deeply committed to supporting migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking women in their journey towards economic independence and empowerment. We believe in the power of community and the importance of offering opportunities that allow migrants to thrive in their new lives. As we mark this important day, we celebrate the contributions of migrants and recognise the challenges they face. Let’s continue to work together to create an inclusive, welcoming environment where every person, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to succeed. #InternationalMigrantsDay #WorkEmpowersWomen #Inclusion #RefugeesWelcome #SisterWorks #GlobalCommunity #Empowerment #SocialImpact Julian Hill

  • #Procurement can be a powerful tool for change—and SisterWorks is proud to be part of the movement driving social impact through innovative partnerships. We were recently featured in this insightful article by Alex Hooke of Social Traders, featured in CEDA - Committee for Economic Development of Australia, highlighting our collaboration with Yarra Trams as a leading example of social procurement in action.  Through this partnership, we provide catering, textiles for cleaning cloths, and upcycled tram-seat fabric merchandise, creating employment pathways for migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker women.  By working with certified social enterprises like SisterWorks, businesses can align with #ESG goals, foster inclusion, and make a tangible difference in their communities.  Read the full article to learn more about how social procurement policies are shaping a fairer, more sustainable economy for Australia https://lnkd.in/gday4Rbb #SisterWorks #WorkEmpowersWomen #SocialProcurement #ESG #EmpoweringWomen #SustainableFuture #SocialEnterprise

  • Empowering women is not a one-size-fits-all approach; it’s about creating opportunities for connection, growth, and independence. At SisterWorks, we provide a space where women can build confidence, learn new skills, and be part of a supportive community. In our Social Sewing group, Kunie found more than just a place to develop her passion for sewing. She discovered a welcoming environment where she could connect with others who understand her journey. It’s a space where women come together from different backgrounds, supporting and encouraging each other every step of the way. Through SisterWorks, women like Kunie not only gain valuable life skills but also build relationships that foster a sense of belonging and empowerment. Our programs are about creating lasting change—helping women move towards economic independence and a brighter future. Supporting women isn’t just about helping individuals; it’s about strengthening communities as a whole. #SisterWorks #WorkEmpowersWomen #WomenEmpowerment #SocialImpact #CommunityBuilding #EconomicIndependence #MigrantWomen #RefugeeSupport

  • When Luchie Hull moved to Australia from the Philippines, she brought with her a natural talent for design and a passion for sewing. In 2023, she joined SisterWorks' Sewing Program to refine her skills and explore new opportunities. Luchie expressed a clear goal: to work with our incredible employment partner, ADA (AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE APPAREL PTY LTD). With SisterWorks' support, she honed her craft, prepared for her machine test, and successfully secured a role as a sewing machinist at ADA. On October 30, 2023, Luchie embarked on this exciting journey—and this year, she proudly celebrated her one-year anniversary at ADA! Luchie loves her work and is thriving in her role. She looks forward to many more successful years ahead, and we couldn’t be prouder of her achievements. This milestone highlights the power of partnerships like the one between SisterWorks and ADA in creating pathways for women from migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking backgrounds to achieve economic empowerment. Join us in congratulating Luchie on this incredible milestone! Here's to her continued success. • Australia has one of the largest per capita clothing consumption rates in the world, with the average Australian buying 56 new items of clothing each year. Over 200,000 tonnes of clothing end up in landfills annually—nearly four times the weight of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. At SisterWorks, we see opportunity where others see waste. Through CircularWorks, we transform discarded textiles and materials into sustainable, high-value products. This initiative not only helps reduce landfill but also empowers migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker women with essential skills and jobs in the green economy. By partnering with SisterWorks CircularWorks, businesses can align with their ESG values, reduce environmental impact, and create meaningful social change. Together, we can lead the way in building a truly sustainable future—one where waste becomes opportunity.
