At SKAN, we believe AgTech holds the key to creating a more sustainable, efficient, and productive agriculture industry. Our platform, AgSKAN, helps farmers optimise their operations, minimising resource use and reducing environmental impact. The benefits go beyond individual farms—widespread adoption of AgTech could lead to significant improvements in global food security and environmental preservation. It’s an exciting time for agriculture, and we’re proud to be part of the movement toward a more sustainable future. What sustainability trends do you think will shape the agriculture industry in the coming years? Let’s share insights.

  •  The Evolution of Agriculture: Where Technology Meets Tradition Agriculture has always been an industry deeply rooted in tradition, but it’s now at the crossroads of significant technological advancement. SKAN is proud to be part of this evolution. Our AgSKAN platform bridges the gap between traditional farming practices and modern technology by enhancing farm management with real-time GPS tracking and route optimization. As more farms incorporate AgTech into their daily operations, the entire industry stands to benefit from increased efficiency, lower costs, and reduced environmental impact. This is a pivotal moment for agriculture, and we’re excited to be part of it. How do you think the integration of technology and traditional farming practices will shape the industry in the years to come? Let’s discuss.

  • Driving Innovation in Agriculture: The Role of AgSKAN The agriculture sector has historically been slow to adopt new technologies, but that’s changing rapidly. At SKAN Farming, we’re at the forefront of that transformation, using our AgSKAN platform to bring innovative solutions to farm management. By optimising machinery routes and providing real-time data on field operations, we’re helping farms cut down on fuel consumption and increase operational efficiency. The result? Reduced costs, lower environmental impact, and the ability to scale more effectively. As industry professionals, it's crucial to keep pace with these innovations. AgTech is not just about improving farm productivity—it’s about creating sustainable growth for the entire sector. What’s your take on the future of innovation in agriculture?

From the Driver’s Seat: Automation in Farming Is Evolving After nine years away, I’ve returned to the chaser bin this harvest and found myself at the intersection of tradition and technology. What was once a manual, skill-driven task is now becoming a machine-assisted process, with my tractor linked to the header and controlled remotely at times. It’s both fascinating and daunting—a reflection of farming’s broader journey toward automation.  In this article, I explore the evolving roles of observation, decision-making, and action in farming automation, using my recent experience as a case study. I also discuss the challenges of transitioning grain-growing activities to fully automated processes, including the barriers of cost, change, and the growing off-farm influence in decision-making tools. Join me as I unpack what these changes mean for the future of farming and for those of us in the driver’s seat today.

The coolest thing about this photo? I was in a paddock this time last year, driving one of those harvesters, thinking about how cool it would be to have a program like AgSKAN. 12 months on, with the help of many (especially my co-founder and good friend Lachlan Ross) we have built a program that farmers are using in the real world to make their lives easier. This project has given me the opportunity to talk to some awesome people and travel to the other side of the country a few times. It’s a pinch yourself moment to see it in action. I sometimes overestimate what I can achieve in a day, I tend to underestimate what I can accomplish in a year.
