About us

Skills Insight is a not-for-profit, government funded, industry-led organisation and one of ten Jobs and Skills Councils (JSC). As a JSC, Skills Insight is responsible for engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to support strategic industry leadership and undertake activities to address skills and workforce challenges. We work with stakeholders who share a passion for improving skills and training across the agribusiness, fibre and furnishings industries. We will work with all stakeholders to understand the diversity of needs, challenges and potential solutions. We will deliver contracted outcomes to support Australia’s skills system, while studying, testing and piloting known and novel responses, and openly and accurately evaluate and report on outcomes. -------------------- VALUES We will work with you in a way that is open, transparent, trustworthy, collaborative and respectful. We will always consider ways to be adaptable, flexible, inquisitive, dedicated, conscientious and accountable. -------------------- Skills Insight acknowledges that First Nations Peoples have been living in and caring for Australia for tens of thousands of years, and this is respected in line with Skills Insight's values and the way we work. --------------------- Skills Insight is a Jobs and Skills Council funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. • Skills Insight Stakeholder Engagement Manager, Tracey Woods, attended the 'Stronger Together' Greenlife Industry Australia Conference in Brisbane last week. Every indoor and outdoor plant, whether tall and shady, leafy or flowery, ornamental or edible, started its life in the greenlife industry. This was a great event where growers, retailers, suppliers, state association members and industry stakeholders came together to learn, network, celebrate and advance the Greenlife sector. Tracey enjoyed catching up with Anie A., Lili Powell and Amy Carter from peak body Nursery & Garden Industry QLD (NGIQ) to discuss all things green. 🪴 #Greenlife #Nursery

  • Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) is seeking public feedback to help shape policies that support gender economic equality in Australia.   The Gender Economic Equality Study will examine the gendered nature of the world of work, education, skills and training. For example, how workforce participation, education choices, career progression and pay gaps are gendered, and how public policy can offer solutions.   Stakeholder feedback is a valuable part of the process and submissions are encouraged up until 5pm 7 March (AEDT).   #JSA #vocationaleducationandtraining #genderequality   https://lnkd.in/gWjthVJm

  • Jobs and Skills Australia's new report, An Essential Ingredient: The Food Supply Chain Workforce examines food production, manufacturing and distribution, highlighting key challenges and opportunities that can be addressed through the national skills system. The report presents actionable recommendations across eight key themes to build resilience and ensure the sector’s long-term sustainability. Skills Insight CEO Michael Hartman was part of the project steering group, and said: "The report shows that when education and training does occur in rural and regional Australia the outcomes are outstanding… so training and workforce development is something definitely worth investing in and this report gives some key pointers to what that investment needs to look like." https://lnkd.in/es_2UYXM

  • Australia’s VET qualification design will be transitioning to a new approach, as agreed to by Skills Ministers on 6 December 2024. The updated model is designed to improve quality, reduce complexity and provide opportunities for new and adaptable approaches to qualifications, representing a shift away from a one size fits all approach to qualification design. A revised Training Package Organising Framework will be available to support the new model, which will be transitioned to through a phased approach, with new templates becoming available for use by developers from 1 July 2025. The new model was developed by the tripartite Qualification Reform Design Group and informed by research and consultations undertaken by Jobs and Skills Councils. Skills Insight will continue to participate in qualification reform activities as we embed the new requirements into our future work. • Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) invites you to participate in the Occupation Shortage List (OSL) Stakeholder Survey. Information from the survey will be used by JSA to better understand the shortage pressures of occupations in the Australian labour market and inform the development of the 2025 Occupation Shortage List (formerly Skills Priority List). The OSL assists policy makers to understand current skills needs and informs JSA’s analysis and advice on potential policy responses to shortages. Your knowledge and experience of recruitment activity in your industry can enhance the evidence base used to identify occupations in shortage. We encourage you to have your say. The Stakeholder Survey is open for participation until Friday 7 March 2025 at 5pm (AEDT). https://lnkd.in/gEqkbu2F

  • We recently published a report aimed at supporting best practice and innovation in curriculum development! Developed in collaboration with Griffith University, it comes after in depth research with registered training organisations (RTOs) about the ways they interpret and translate training packages into training programs. Research revealed the complexity faced by RTOs when creating or modifying a training course or resource, including determining the course purpose; managing pre-translation, translation and mobilisation processes; and addressing challenges.  These findings were used to develop recommendations for how to better support RTOs in streamlining the translation process, as well as how the VET system could be shaped to enhance the overall translation environment.
