Someva Renewables and our partner Mainstream Renewable Power are proud to have been awarded a permit by Forestry Corporation of NSW to jointly investigate a 500 MW wind farm in Sunny Corner Sate Forest. Located approximately halfway between Lithgow and Bathurst on Wiradjuri country, the Sunny Corner Wind Farm could be one of the first located within a NSW State Forest and would be designed to operate in harmony with recreational and forestry activities. Someva Renewables’ Managing Director Jamie Chivers said: “Sunny Corner Wind Farm is an opportunity for NSW to deliver the energy transition while strengthening regional prosperity. Wind farms are in operation in forests around the world and Someva partnered with Mainstream because of their experience in constructing similar wind farms overseas. We look forward to meeting local communities, First Nations people, forestry users and local interest groups to incorporate their feedback into this exciting opportunity.” You can read more about the announcement here and you can learn more about the proposed Sunny Corner Wind Farm here https://lnkd.in/gTwujBzX #RenewableEnergy #renewables #windenergy #netzero #energy #energytransition #SunnyCornerWindFarm #SomevaRenewables

PROJECT UPDATE: Someva is pleased to announced an updated project timeline for our proposed Coonerang Wind Farm project in the Snowy-Monaro region of NSW. As part of our commitment to genuine community co-design on the project, we have formally requested the NSW Government to update the project’s assessment requirements to ensure the proposed 150-megawatt (MW) wind and battery storage project is assessed against the NSW Government’s, new best-practice Wind Energy Guidelines – released late last year. This step ensures the local community can have confidence that the proposed Coonerang Wind Farm will be assessed and developed in line with the new, industry best practice guidelines, and importantly this decision does not substantially alter the overall project timeline. If approved, the Coonerang Wind Farm is expected to begin producing clean, affordable, and reliable energy in 2029. We’ve released the findings from our community survey for the proposed Sunny Corner Wind Farm, revealing what locals value most about the Sunny Corner region and their priorities for the project. Key insights include the community’s deep appreciation for the area’s natural heritage, with 89% highlighting the importance of bushland, rivers, and native wildlife, followed by recreation opportunities and lifestyle, cultural heritage, farming and job opportunities. We are committed to listening and understanding the needs of the community to ensure the project delivers positive outcomes for residents, the local economy and the environment, including new job opportunities and other benefits. Next steps include the release of a project Scoping Report, which will feature an initial turbine layout, and hosting Community Information Hubs to continue the conversation with locals. A follow-up survey is also underway focusing on how Sunny Corner Wind Farm can deliver benefits to the community through the development of a tailored Community Benefits Program. The Climate Change Authority has released its 2024 Annual Progress Report, underscoring the urgent need for Australia to accelerate the deployment of renewable electricity to meet our 2030 targets. The report also calls for federal and state governments to streamline the approvals process for large-scale generators to help Australia meet its climate and energy transition targets. As the Chair of the Authority, the The Hon. Matt Kean says: “Getting more renewables into our electricity system will do the heavy lifting at least cost towards the 2030 emissions reduction goal.” At Someva Renewables, we’re committed to delivering the clean, affordable, and reliable energy that will power Australia’s future. Our projects across the country are designed with the community to help drive this transition and deliver real benefits to local communities. We encourage everyone to explore the findings of the Climate Change Authority’s report and learn more about how we can work together to deliver a transition that works for everyone: https://lnkd.in/gM-jYbJF To find out more about Someva’s industry-leading renewable energy projects, visit: https://lnkd.in/gD7rqRwn #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #WindEnergy #CleanEnergy

Someva Renewables welcomes new research from Farmers for Climate Action which highlights the strong support for renewable energy among farmers and regional Australians. The survey shows that 70% of people in Renewable Energy Zones, and 73% of those connected to farming, back renewable energy projects when the community is listened to and involved. This aligns Someva’s approach and our experience with the proposed Pottinger Energy Park, a joint venture with AGL, where we prioritise genuine community consultation, careful project design and meaningful benefits-sharing initiatives. This survey also follows research from the CSIRO released earlier in the year showing 9 in 10 Australians support the renewable energy transition. By working together, we can ensure renewable energy projects deliver real benefits for regional communities. Statement on new Wind Energy Guidelines: Someva Renewables welcomes the release of the NSW Government’s new Renewable Energy Planning Framework by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. In particular we welcome the new Wind Energy Guidelines, which will provide communities, industry and regulators a consistent, best practice approach to developing and assessing new wind energy projects in NSW. The new guidelines are a critical step to help accelerate NSW’s energy transition, while providing communities and industry much needed certainty around the future of projects. Someva’s senior management team, including Jamie Chivers and Tim Mead, was pleased to provide feedback for the Department’s consideration into the development of the new Wind Energy Guidelines. Someva already implements many of the best practice approaches outlined in the new guidelines in relation to community engagement, project layout and design, community co-design and the design of community benefits funds. Wind energy backed by storage technology has a critical role to play in NSW’s energy transition, and has the potential to provide the clean, affordable and reliable energy millions of businesses and households around the state need. Last week, the Someva Renewables team was proud to take part in the first STEM Industry Partnership Day at Cooma North Public School. It was a great opportunity to engage with students and teachers and share insights about the many STEM careers possible in the renewable energy sector. At our stand, students got hands-on with activities with a paper plane throwing competition. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and curiosity, especially with the chance to win a turbine model kit on the line! A big thank you to the students and teachers at Cooma North Public School for making it such a fun and rewarding day. We’re proud to support the local community and inspire the next generation of STEM professionals who will drive Australia’s renewable energy future. Someva Renewables’ proposed Coonerang Wind Farm project is located approximately 15km south of Cooma in NSW’s Snowy-Monaro region.
