Human Rights Day is observed annually around the world on 10 December. This year’s theme is a call to recognise the importance and relevancy of human rights in our everyday lives. An often-overlooked human right is economic rights. Economic rights, such as the right to work, fair wages and safe working conditions are essential to human dignity. They form the backbone of a society where everyone can thrive. Societies that prioritise economic equity foster innovation, resilience, and shared prosperity. Whether through policies, business practices, or community initiatives, we all have a role to play in ensuring economic rights are upheld. Human Rights Day is the last day of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence. Together, we can make a difference. #HumanRightsDay #SouthAustralia #WhiteRibbon #16daysofactivism

Last week, His Excellency Petr Pavel, President of the Czech Republic, led a Czech business and government delegation to South Australia. During his visit, His Excellency toured Lot Fourteen, where he attended presentations on South Australia's strategic direction for cyber security by Will Luker, Government Chief Information Security Officer. He also heard from the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre the project team for Lot Fourteen, and the Australian Space Discovery Centre. These meetings provided a valuable opportunity to explore potential collaboration between South Australia and the Czech Republic, particularly in the rapidly growing sectors of cyber, defence, and space. #SouthAustralia #CyberSecurity #Defence #Space Will Luker Matthew Salier

Today is International Day of People With Disability. This morning we were pleased to gather for a morning tea with guest speaker Robbi Williams, Chief Executive Officer at Julia Farr group, to discuss this year’s theme, ‘Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.’ Robbi spoke about the importance of having open conversations around interdependence – to help each other - with a focus on considering accessibility in the initial and ongoing stages of design for housing, education and transport. At DTF we believe leadership comes from every level in the department, and we are keen to acknowledge and support both colleagues and clients of DTF who live with a disability. They contribute to making our workplace and community a wonderful place to be. Many thanks to SAFA’s CEO, Anthony Coates, for hosting this important conversation. #IDPWD #Disability #Leadership

New aboriginal artwork and acknowledgement of country have been installed in the Office of the Chief Information Officer’s Cyber Security Directorate office at Tech Central, Lot Fourteen. The artwork is by Lawson Dodd, who is a Kaurna, Narungga, Ngarrindjeri artist. He has used elements from his artwork called “Sacred Ground” and it was installed at Lot Fourteen by Ochre Dawn, a First Nations owned company based on Kaurna Country. The inclusion of First Nations artwork in the Cyber Security Directorate office space contributes to the Department of Treasury and Finance’s commitment to reconciliation. The artwork, “Sacred Ground”, reflects the diverse lands of First Nations people in Australia. The colours and textures highlight the unique characteristics of these ancient landscapes, and the cultures connected to them. The symbols within the artwork represent the relationships between land, community, and tradition, emphasising the enduring connection First Nations people have with Country. This piece serves as a reminder of the importance of honouring and preserving these lands and cultural ties. Accompanying the artwork is an Acknowledgement of Country, which also solidifies the impact of recognising the land on which the Cyber Security Directorate operates.

We recently gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of our newest cohort of graduates. Among the 80 participants from 23 diverse agencies, Treasury and Finance was well-represented. These individuals successfully completed Department of Treasury and Finance Graduate Development Program and Finance Officer Program, professional development programs tailored for the public sector. These programs are an investment by the South Australian Government in skills for the future and continue to offer the opportunity to build relationships with like-minded professionals across the South Australian public sector. Both programs have been highly successful and are delivered in collaboration with the University of Adelaide's Professional and Continuing Education (PACE). Registrations are now open for the 2025 programs. For more information contact DTFGraduates@sa.gov.au Professional and Continuing Education

Today, the Department of Treasury and Finance hosted a special morning tea with guest speaker, Grant Pearson from BaptistCare. Although he acknowledged it was ordinarily a "BBQ stopper", we found it was a great chance for our staff to learn more about the campaign and what each of us can do to help create the generational change needed to stop domestic violence. Our CSO, Scott Bayliss, spoke about how the department and public sector stand against domestic violence, and discussed how we can help and support each other. Staff recently attended the White Ribbon breakfast in Adelaide, the biggest White Ribbon breakfast in the world. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer community. #WhiteRibbonDay #EndViolenceAgainstWomen White Ribbon Australia Rick Persse AM Scott Bayliss
