With applications now open for 2025 AgriFutures Horizon Scholarships, take a minute to get to know recent graduate agronomist and Horizon Scholar James White, who was supported by #SNSWInnovationHub in 2023 and 2024. Before the scholarship, James had his eye set on being a farm manager and agronomist – but now the sky’s the limit. “When I was doing the scholarship, I realised I could be much more than that in the industry. I know I have what it takes to make a big impact on the wider industry by knowing people, knowing what can be done, and knowing what other people have done before me." We were thrilled to support and see the work of Mulloon Institute and Carolyn Hall represented at #COP16 on #drought in Riyadh earlier this month! Carolyn spoke at the conference in support of the launch of a major global review on Desertification. Congratulations Carolyn! #SNSWInnovationHub #FutureDroughtFund Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
Such a great experience here at COP16Riyadh thank you SNSW Innovation Hub Australia and the Director Cindy Cassidy and Rebecca Gorman for making it possible for Mulloon Institute to contribute to the ELD - Economics of Land Degradation Initiative UNCCD Economics of Drought Report and to attend COP16. The need for landscape restoration across the world, water as the blue thread running through the Rio Trio + 1 (Ramsar Convention) has made Mulloon’s work relevant. Sharing our knowledge, experience and lessons learned has really resonated here. The challenges we have around regulatory frameworks and policy not fit for purpose to support landscape restoration are shared across the world. We have seen what Saudi Arabia has achieved and what they will achieve when policies and finances align. We are inspired by the potential of partnerships and collaboration to make a real difference for a climate resilient future.

The Australian Government’s approach to supporting the agricultural sector to manage drought is out now, with the new Drought Plan available via Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry #SNSWInnovationHub #FutureDroughtFund
A new Australian Government plan that explains how we support farming businesses and communities preparing for, managing through and recovering from drought is now out. The Drought Plan: - provides a clearer explanation of what we will and won’t do, as conditions dry - outlines what programs are available for farming businesses and communities before, during and after drought - promotes better coordination of these programs across Australian, state and territory governments - seeks to work with farmers, their communities, the agriculture and finance sectors, and non-government organisations on drought. Our farmers are getting ready for drought, and we are too. Read the plan here: https://brnw.ch/21wPnBn #drought #AusGov #AusAg

ICYMI... We're still celebrating being recognised as a national biosecurity leader at the 2024 Australian Biosecurity Awards! #SNSWInnovationHub was named winner of the community category at the #AusBioAwards for a unique project with the potential to enhance biosecurity management systems and strategies across the country. The Managing Biosecurity Risks project involved collaboration across community, the wine industry and grape growers to find ways to increase the speed of tracking possible vectors to reduce, halt or eradicate biosecurity threats. https://loom.ly/p3xpbzM NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Wine Australia Julie Collins Onside #NSWWine
