We are thrilled to receive the support for our Masterplan from the GCCC’s lifestyle committee, following the vote in favour of a 30-year extension on our current lease of the reserve land surrounding the club. This is a significant step for the club’s long-term tenure, and for realising our vision of delivering generational infrastructure for the northern Gold Coast region. The process from here, will now be for the recommendation to be put forward to full council for approval. Sunday 25 August – history was made. Through tremendous performances, both of our QAFLW teams clinched premiership wins in their respective Grand Finals. These victories are a testament to the determination of all involved, highlighting the strength of our women’s football program. Our dedication to growing the female program is evident, with 35% of our 500 junior players being female, offering a clear pathway to senior and reserves competition in the QAFLW division. This is fuelled further as Kaylee Kimber, the standout player in the Senior Grand Final, has now been signed by the Western Bulldogs AFLW squad. Kaylee is amongst eleven female players in the last three years who have transitioned from Southport Sharks to an AFLW team, showcasing our commitment to developing talent within our ranks. This success reinforces our focus on expanding the investment into female facilities and continuing the growth of our game outlined in the club's Master Plan. Today, we’re honoured to celebrate Lesley’s 25-year milestone at Southport Sharks! 🎉 Lesley began her journey with us in 1999 as a Cleaner in the Maintenance Department, later moving into the Café where she became a beloved Team Leader. Her drive to grow led her to complete a traineeship with Southport Sharks in Frontline Management from 2011-2013, further solidifying her invaluable role in our team. Lesley’s commitment, leadership, and warm spirit have made a lasting impact on us all. Lesley, from everyone at Southport Sharks, thank you for 25 years of outstanding service! 🦈

Last week, Southport Sharks had the privilege of hosting the School Sport Australia Under 15's AFL Championships. We are grateful for the opportunity to support such large-scale sporting events, by providing accommodating facilities for the travelling teams and their supporters. It was a fantastic showcase of young sporting talent, and we look forward to continuing our role in fostering youth sports in the future.
