Here is a brief insight into the Conservation Farming Initiative that Sovereign Metals is undertaking in Malawi alongside developing its Kasiya Rutile-Graphite Project. Local farmers are being trained in sustainable farming techniques to increase maize crop yield, protect soil from erosion and degradation, and improve long-term food security. Within weeks of the initiative kicking off, the Program had already yielded visibly higher crop growth. Preliminary conservative yields were estimated to be three times higher than average conventional crop yields. This is despite Malawi’s crop yields expected to be 22.5% lower than average this year due to the El Niño weather phenomenon. According to the World Food Program, up to 5.4 million people in Malawi are subject to food insecurity, with many Malawians dependent on subsistence agriculture. Supporting local communities in addressing their social priorities is a core principle of Sovereign’s strategy as the company advances the development of Kasiya.

We were delighted to have been invited by the U.S. Department of State and SAFE Center for Critical Minerals to discuss the importance of Kasiya as a future supplier of two critical and strategic minerals at the inaugural Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) Finance Meeting. Sovereign and its strategic investor Rio Tinto presented at the event during the UN General Assembly in New York last week. Sovereign is focused on developing its Tier 1, globally strategic Kasiya Rutile-Graphite Project in Malawi. Kasiya is the world’s largest natural rutile deposit – the purest, highest-grade naturally occurring titanium feedstock – and the world’s second-largest flake graphite deposit – a battery mineral essential for the Energy Transition. https://lnkd.in/e63dHA8t

We are pleased to announce that the team has successfully installed and commissioned an industrial-scale spiral concentrator plant at the Company’s laboratory and testing facility in Lilongwe, Malawi! The spiral plant will prepare a graphite gravity concentrate from the test pit mined as part of the the Pilot Phase at Sovereign's Kasiya Rutile-Graphite Project - the world's largest known rutile deposit. Graphite concentrate will be sent to specialist laboratories for testwork for the battery anode industry in line with Sovereign’s strategy to commercialise Kasiya’s graphite by-product. https://lnkd.in/eZGMj3ni

Our Lilongwe x Nacala Port Railway Freight Transport service is now up and running. Our first freight train carried fertiliser from Lusaka in Zambia (by road trucks transshipped at Kanengo Station) for our Fertiliser client Meridian and the final destination was Nacala in Mozambique. Malawi and Zambian can no longer be considered land locked Countries , it is now land (railway) linked. Add railway transport to your supply chain and experience massive efficiency and reduction of logistics costs #nacalalogistics #thefuturepasseshere

TESTWORK DELIVERS SUPERIOR QUALITY, LOW IMPURITY GRAPHITE FOR BATTERY ANODES Graphite circuit feed prepared at Sovereign’s existing Lilongwe laboratory facility has produced high quality concentrates in benchtop and pilot-scale flotation and cleaning Four independent laboratories all successfully produced high-grade graphite concentrate averaging over 97% Total Graphite Content (TGC) with flotation recoveries exceeding 90% Flotation results demonstrated 1.44% TGC run-of-mine Kasiya ore upgrades to more than 55% TGC rougher concentrate without crushing or milling, process steps typically required for producing graphite concentrates from hard-rock deposits; contributing to the unique low cost characteristics of Kasiya’s saprolite hosted graphite Graphite concentrates indicate exceptionally low levels of sulphur compared to typical hard-rock graphite peers – a key metric to qualify as active anode material for lithium-ion batteries https://lnkd.in/e_eGc_RP

SOVEREIGN TO INCREASE GRAPHITE BULK SAMPLE PREPARATION CAPACITY - Industrial scale spiral concentrator to be installed at Sovereign’s expanded laboratory and testing facility in Lilongwe, Malawi, in the coming weeks - Sovereign is targeting a market-leading position as the world’s largest and lowest-cost producer of rutile for the titanium industry and flake graphite for the lithium-ion battery market #SVM #SVML #GRAPHITE #RUTILE #TITANIUM #lithium #ion #batteries https://lnkd.in/e-fGBB6B
