  • How many junior tennis players does it take to keep pace with retired superstar Ash Barty? The former World No.1 and three-time Grand Slam singles champion returned to her junior path when Springfield City Group held a tennis clinic for dozens of players aged 10 and under at Springfield. Nine schools from the Greater Springfield Learning Coalition took part in the clinic. Students had the opportunity to spend time with Ash and the Tennis For Kids coaches on court, receiving advice from Ash and watching the former pro in action. https://lnkd.in/gY24ghKr

  • Springfield City Group has presented the fifth annual Maha Sinnathamby AM Ideas and Imagination Award, drawing entries from school students across the Greater Springfield region. The brightest young minds in one of the nation’s fastest-growing regions have again devised ways to build the city of the future with “inspiring” ideas to help the vulnerable along with initiatives for transport and education. The University of Queensland’s Head of Entrepreneurship Nimrod Klayman, who attended the final pitches, praised the standard of ideas from young primary school minds through to senior students. “They were inspiring particularly seeing the way the small children presented and the efforts of the older students. Their pitches were amazing. The city is in good hands,” Mr Klayman, from UQ Ventures, said. https://lnkd.in/gDr3JU6a

  • Little Ash characters meet the real deal at Book Week   Tennis superstar Ash Barty was surrounded by some smaller versions of herself when she presided over a Book Week parade in Springfield city today (Friday 23 September).   Ms Barty was a special guest at St Peter’s Lutheran College Springfield as students took to dressing up for their Book Week parade. And some of the students were dressed as Little Ash from Ms Barty’s children’s book series.   Ms Barty said while she enjoyed seeing children embrace sports, she also loved seeing their eagerness for the much-loved tradition of Book Week, which encourages young readers.   “I loved seeing the creativity on display in Book Week as the children indulged their imaginative side or took a humble approach to becoming their favourite book character,” Ms Barty said.   “Book Week is a great opportunity for children to embrace literacy by dressing up as their favourite characters, be it a professional athlete, animal, fairy tale or simply a personality they can identify with.” Read more - https://lnkd.in/e23dBJXG
