With increasing regularity and severity of natural disasters, including floods, fires, cyclones, earthquakes, and severe storms, the importance of providing a resilient built environment is an essential part of Engineering design. To help designers of reinforced concrete structures, Scott Munter and Eric Lume wrote a paper detailing the 'Key Focus Areas to Assure the Longevity of Resilient and Sustainable Concrete Structures in Australia'. Scott and Eric presented this paper at Concrete NZ's fib Symposium in Christchurch last week. DOWNLOAD THE PAPER HERE >>> https://lnkd.in/gXBGTrRK

About us
The Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia (SRIA) supports reinforcing steel quality and capability in Australia's building and construction industry. The not-for-profit institute is the hub of knowledge for Engineers, Designers, Builders, Suppliers and Students interested in understanding the benefits and applications of reinforcing steel. Reinforced concrete provides unmatched versatility and durability as a building material. It was first used in Australia around 1895 when Carter, Gummow & Co. constructed the Johnstons Creek Sewer Aqueduct in Annandale, Sydney. Since then, reinforced concrete has proven itself as the preferred building material by Australians for its design flexibility, cost efficiency, fire resistance and speed of construction. QUALITY GUARANTEED SRIA requires all members to hold a current JAS-ANZ accredited 3rd party processor certificate to prove their bar and mesh conforms to AS/NZS 4671. Don’t risk purchasing non-conforming products that put Australians at risk. SRIA Members: Active Steel ARC AUSREO BESTBAR Bianco Reinforcing Infrabuild Mesh & Bar Neumann Steel Wire Industries

When it comes to the Resiliency and Sustainability of reinforced concrete structures, there's no better subject matter experts than Scott Munter and Eric Lume. Scott presented, "Key focus areas to assure the longevity of resilient and sustainable reinforced concrete structures" to Engineers Australia at their recent Australasian Structural Engineering Conference 2024 in Melbourne. Follow us to learn more about the advancements in steel reinforcement design and technology!

The REO QUALITY CHAIN is only as strong as the weakest link. If Non-Conforming couplers are used on a project then the steel reinforcement solution no longer meets Engineering design requirements. COUPLERS are part of an AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS compliant rebar solution. DON'T BREAK THE REO QUALITY CHAIN - Ask your couplers supplier for quality certification. Attention ACSE Members: Scott Munter is presenting 'Ensuring conforming reinforcement material supply' Lunch & Learn event Thursday, 6 June 12:30pm - 2:15pm via Zoom. With the recent discovery of some imported non-conforming reinforcement issues in Australia, this presentation will focus on how to ensure compliant reinforcement is supplied on your project, as well as site issues that impact steel reinforcement performance requirements. ⚠️HOW YOU WEED OUT NON-CONFORMING REBAR AND MESH: Processors / Suppliers - Ask the Steel Mill for 3rd Party Certification that the bar, rod, and mesh conform to AS/NZS 4671 before you buy. When the steel arrives, check that the unique bar marks on the product match the bar marks on the certificate (see our previous post on how to do this: https://lnkd.in/gnw6Hbix) Builders / Contractors - Ask the Processor / Supplier for their 3rd Party Processor certificate to verify the processed bar and welded mesh conform to AS/NZS 4671 and check that the bar marks on the certificate match the bar marks on the product before the concrete is poured. Note: The mechanical properties of a steel bar change when it is bent, straightened, or welded so you can't rely on mill certificates. Engineers / Surveyors - Ask the Builder for 3rd Party Processor certification verifying the rebar and mesh conform to AS/NZS 4671 before you accept product. Please follow these guidelines to flush out Non-Conforming Rebar and Mesh, or .... Buy from an SRIA Member. Our members must hold a JASANZ accredited 3rd party certificate to demonstrate product traceability and conformance to AS/NZS 4671. Everyone in the supply chain has a duty of care to ensure compliant reinforcement is supplied.
