We are excited to introduce our upcoming STePPS CRE Webinar 'Embedding equity into implementation science: Moving beyond Western, Eurocentric models, theories and practices' by Professor Helen Skouteris. Professor Helen Skouteris is a Chief Investigator on the STePPS CRE. Professor Skouteris's work on embedding equity into implementation science offers significant insights for mental health interventions, particularly in diverse, underserved communities. Professor Skouteris emphasizes the necessity of moving beyond Eurocentric frameworks to include culturally specific needs, which aligns well with the goals of delivering effective mental health interventions. Her approach suggests that incorporating local cultural practices and community knowledge can help address mental health challenges more inclusively, ensuring interventions are not only accessible but also meaningful to a broader population. 📅 Date: Thursday, 28 2024 🕖 Time: 7:00pm AEDT (8:00am GMT; 9:00am CET; 10:00am SAST; 1:30pm IST; 3:00am EST) ☑️ Register to join on Zoom: https://lnkd.in/gWcV2bsH This webinar is free to attend with pre-registration. Please feel free to share this with your colleagues. We look forward to seeing you. Warm regards, The STePPS CRE Team

Fathers and partners often feel overlooked during challenging times in pregnancy and birth. They may not receive the information or support they need, impacting their mental health and overall well-being, as well as that of their families. Our research team is developing ‘Best Practice Principles’ to better support birthing families in these situations. We are now inviting feedback on these draft Principles through a national consultation process, ensuring they address the needs of all families, across a whole range of birth experiences. This research is for the benefit of all Australians, and we welcome the participation of people of all abilities, cultures, races, sexualities and genders, ensuring that everyone's voice is heard and valued. We welcome your insights in a simple, safe, and welcoming online session lasting 1.5 hours. This research is led by STePPS CRE Early Career Researcher, A/Prof Alka Kothari (FRANZCOG, PhD) as part of the Metro North (QLD) Health and Hospital Service Clinician Research Fellowship. 🌟 Highlighting the Critical Role of Fathers and Partners in Perinatal Care 🌟 PIRI is thrilled to share the incredible work being led by Associate Professor Alka Kothari, a passionate advocate for holistic perinatal care and an Early Career Researcher under the STePPS CRE, led by the The Parent-Infant Research Institute (PIRI). Alka is at the forefront of a groundbreaking project titled "Supporting Fathers and Partners during a Traumatic Pregnancy and Childbirth: Towards Holistic Care." Historically, fathers and partners have been the forgotten members of the perinatal journey, particularly during traumatic pregnancies and childbirth. Alka's research is set to change that narrative. Her project aims to develop co-designed educational resources for healthcare professionals, including innovative e-mental health tools. Collaborating with organisations like Red Nose and PANDA - Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia, the goal is to establish Best Practice Principles that ensure holistic support for all families, potentially influencing national policy. Alka’s unique work, which spans The University of Queensland and Metro North Hospital and Health Service, is a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusivity in obstetric care. Her PhD on "Forgotten Fathers in Pregnancy and Childbirth" has not only gained national and international acclaim but has also been a catalyst for driving positive change in how we approach perinatal care. As a Senior Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and an Associate Professor at UQ, Alka is leading the charge to create a more supportive environment for fathers and partners, recognising the profound impact that this support can have on the entire family unit. Her efforts to co-design resources with those who have lived experiences of trauma are crucial in ensuring that the care provided is both relevant and effective. PIRI is incredibly proud to see such leadership in action, fostering a much-needed paradigm shift in perinatal care. Alka’s work is a testament to the power of consumer involvement and the importance of supporting all parents during their journey to parenthood. Let’s champion this cause and support the ongoing efforts to make holistic care a reality for all families! 🌍💪 Find out more about the StePPS CRE and Alka's work at https://lnkd.in/gC3hykxe #PerinatalCare #FathersMatter #HolisticHealth #STePPSCRE #Obstetrics #MentalHealth #HealthcareInnovation

The STePPS CRE e-Psychological Perinatal Support projects hold the potential to make a profound impact on maternal and paternal mental health, reshaping the landscape of perinatal care for generations to come. Here are some of our early projects. Project 4: e-Interventions in a Stepped-care Model This CRE will use e-interventions in a stepped-care model to widen the scope of treatments and preventions to include fathers, partners and singles, and address difficulties in couple relationships. Activity 1: e-Towards Parenthood We are conducting a feasibility study of a new e-prevention program for couples in pregnancy, called e-Towards Parenthood. We will evaluate participants’ satisfaction with and usage of the program, as well as its usefulness in supporting adjustment to the arrival of a new baby. Activity 2: Uptake Maximisation for Fathers Developing methods for engaging depressed men in e-treatments and implementing it in our DadBooster program. The STePPS CRE e-Psychological Perinatal Support projects hold the potential to make a profound impact on maternal and paternal mental health, reshaping the landscape of perinatal care for generations to come. Here are some of our early projects. Project 3: e-Prevention and e-Treatment Programs Project 3 focuses on e-prevention and e-treatment programs to strengthen the mother-infant relationship, and includes programs currently pioneered within the STePPS team. In the first instance, the evidence synthesis process will determine how to best extend and deploy the existing e-HUGS program. Activity 1: Evidence Synthesis Systematic review/review to identify Evidence synthesis for identification of key evidence-based mother-infant relationship e-interventions. Activity 2: Mother-infant program The existing mother-baby e-intervention e-HUGS will be further developed based on the evidence synthesis and how to embed this into existing referral pathways as targeting infants are not currently part of routine care were treating maternal depression. This is despite the evidence of the developmental impact without early intervention.
