This week, the StewartBrown team had the privilege of hosting a booth and presenting at the National Disability Services Executive Leaders Conference in Adelaide. This was an incredible opportunity to engage with key decision-makers across the disability sector, share insights, and discuss our benchmark findings. Our analysis sparked some meaningful conversations about the current challenges and opportunities within the sector with a focus on the path forward. We are proud to support providers in navigating these complexities with data-driven insights that enhance strategic decision-making and operational effectiveness. StewartBrown are excited to announce the launch of our 2024 Retirement Living Survey in partnership with DCM Group Research. The survey collection will start from this month with reporting and analysis released in March 2025. The StewartBrown Retirement Living Survey (RLS) collects operational, sales, resident contract structures, resident demographic, and financial data on an annual basis, giving retirement living operators the ability to evaluate and assess their data to provide invaluable insights into the trends of key retirement living metrics at sector level, operator level and individual village/community level. In partnership with DCM Research, StewartBrown aims to also survey resident satisfaction as a part of it’s offering to retirement living operators. The survey is available for participation by ALL providers of retirement living, independent living, assisted living/serviced apartments, senior's housing, seniors social housing and land lease communities. To register your interest or for more information, contact Robert Krebs or Teanne Lundie on (02) 9412 3033 or email retirement.survey@stewartbrown.com.au.

On now at #ACCPANC24 Tony Jones facilitates a panel on Securing the Future: Insights on Financial Sustainability for the Sector at #ACCPANC24 with (pictured from left) Michael Lye from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care , #Agedcare Taskforce member Mary Patetsos Aged & Community Care Providers Association CEO Tom & StewartBrown ’s Grant Key message: Grant Corderoy: We have to wait for three years to see the benefits of the changes; we won’t know impact until end of FY 2028. In residential aged care, until we get sustainable return on accommodation we won’t get the investment needed. We’ve got to educate society that accommodation is part of care, but only direct care is paid for by government. In home care, price must be right to be sustainable. We have to change our approach to look at the revenue line. Tom Symondson: the reform that is happening at the moment is the great shift from aged care being something belittled … to a rights based Act, a more grown up conversation…. What hopefully passes before Christmas will give us a basis for that conversation. We can now talk about people paying for things they have all their lives. We can talk about investability. These are principal changes that have to happen. They give us the ability to grow further. It will take time for the full benefits of reform to come through. My hope is home care will be sustainable. It will be 3 or 5 or 8 years after the legislation is passed. We have to have the patience to sustain the distance. Mary Patetsos: The job is not done, but we have progressed… Not all providers are the same. And not all consumers are the same… We need a mix of providers to survive this process. As providers we have to be innovative in the way we provide services in rural areas. There are some good services out there in the bush and we need to get out there. On sustainability, We’re stabilising but we’ve got a long way to go. We need to have confidence to borrow and seek funding to do the job we want to do. Providers need sustained profitable years so banks are interested in us. And providers are going to have to take leaps of faith to upgrade their facilities. Michael Lye: We think we have it right. It’s a big deal the minister has got bipartisan agreement. We are trying to bend the curve to ensure programs like aged care are sustainable over time. One of the benefits of a progressive model towards contributions, is as a person’s wealth increases, the system will recalibrate. With adequate funding providers can start to think about innovation. We need to improve some things about this model as we go along. Australian Ageing Agenda #agedcarenews

With a focus on investing for financial sustainability, David Hurley, Stuart Hutcheon, and I took the stage at the Aged & Community Care Providers Association National Conference. From a Perpetual Limited perspective, we discussed governance, aligning providers' portfolios with their mission, and the performance of different asset classes to balance risk and reward. The expertise and value StewartBrown provides to this sector are phenomenal. We were fortunate to have Stuart Hutcheon join us and showcase some promising developments through funding reforms and various EBITDA modelling scenarios.
