Commonly Asked Strata Questions: How much say do I have in a strata scheme? Your interest and voting rights (at general meetings of the body corporate), which are known as ownership interests, will be spelt out either in the original strata plan for the building or, by a formula based on market value. These should be spelt out in your purchase documentation and you should take the time to understand them. Strata Community Association (Qld)

I had the privilege of attending SCA Victoria's Symposium over the past few days. The sessions were highly informative, covering a wide range of topics relevant to the industry. The release of the new VIC contract of appointment is very timely considering the current state of consumer confidence in the industry. .

Nicole Johnston's analysis is crucial in addressing this pressing issue in the built environment. It's a couple of cuppas to read, but well worth it. Given international trends, will Australia likely adopt similar regulations at some point in the future?
I recently presented a paper at the Australian College of Strata Lawyers conference on mandatory inspection regulations for ageing buildings. The paper is an analysis of international trends. Are these the types of regulations that we may see in Australia? I make some points at the end of the paper that are worth considering. At the conference, we discussed other potential mechanisms that could prompt more building care action. Would be interested in hearing thoughts on this topic. #strataresearch #ageingbuildings #strata #buildinginspections

Strata committees and building managers often face the challenge of maintaining a cohesive building aesthetic while allowing residents to personalise their balconies. Haphazard additions like mismatched screens and canopies can detract from the property's overall appeal, thereby affecting unit sales and leases. Most strata buildings have by-laws governing the visual appearance of individual lots, requiring approval for exterior alterations like installing shutters or adding trellises. Strata committees are obligated to enforce these by-laws, but should do so while fostering dialogue and cooperation among residents. Clear guidelines on allowable furniture, plants, screens and decorations can preserve aesthetics while giving flexibility, while encouraging input from owners when developing or revising by-laws promotes a collaborative approach to finding the right balance between uniformity and personal expression. #strata #apartmentliving #balconies #bylaws https://lnkd.in/grHbiDsq
