#ThrowbackThursday Modern, sophisticated and uncomplicated, the revitalisation of this Wayne Gillespie-designed house is based on the values of family, integrity and hospitality. The task was to inject this grand house with new life and energy, creating a functional family home with the luxuries of contemporary living and entertaining. This involved refreshing the original architectural elements and spaces – entrance, living areas, bedrooms and bathrooms – and extending the kitchen to create a dream butler’s pantry and laundry. A new ensuite and walk-in-robe was also included in the design. Studio Griffiths created an interplay of dramatic contrasts throughout the house to differentiate space and function: airy, bright communal spaces welcome relaxation and socialising, while dark, moodier spaces define areas of utility or privacy. The effect is executed cohesively with darker furnishings anchoring the lighter spaces and textured and marbled materials, enriching the darker spaces. A relaxed and understated luxury renovation that exemplifies Studio Griffiths’ approach to design. #ThrowbackThursday Located in one of Ivanhoe’s wide leafy streets, this Californian bungalow, whilst retaining the charm of the past, now has become a spacious, modern and practical family home. Studio Griffiths chose to embrace many of the 1930’s elements, such as the leadlight windows, ornate ceilings and glass door panels, whilst still injecting a contemporary renovation to suit a family of five. Spaces were reconfigured and transformed through a refined material palette, customisation and detail to create a personalised contemporary interior with a considered intent to preserve the homes heritage. Walls were removed to create a glorious flow which now carries the eye from the entrance all the way into the rear of the home where the pool takes the centre of attention. The entrance of the home captivates the minute you cross the threshold – with it’s now beautiful white walls featuring striking accents of black and brass and a prominent fireplace, clad in ‘saviour’ stone, certainly impresses. Studio Griffiths focused on creating a light, whimsical and eccentric interiors with statement touches of colour throughout to reflect the clients’ creativity and personalities. Embracing the client’s existing traditional furniture, these were repurposed by Studio Griffiths and stained in moody dark colours to fuse and merge with the new contemporary furnishings. #ThrowbackThursday A timber flooring showroom in an existing warehouse exuding both a relaxed and understated luxury. The space allows customers to make informed choices within a beautifully curated environment - see, touch and experience, whilst being inspired by a space they can visualise for their own home. This is a unique aspect of the design and born from the development of the classic swivel mirror which is used to display timber pivot screens, creating a repetitious rhythm in the space. Another feature are the concealed magnets to secure the timber boards in the steel display frames, allowing the client to update the timber boards as required. A strong emphasis was placed on the design of name plaques, branding names, signage, display of the boards and sample boxes as they became an integral component of the design process. The aim was to create a clean functional layout that embraced a holistic approach and attention to detail.  The versatility and multiple functions of the space; the minimal execution of materiality and timeless elements; all result in a simply resolved ambient showroom. #ThrowbackThursday Red Hill residence, located on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula is a wonderful additions and alteration project, placed gently into a landscape of matured trees and surrounding vineyards. The clients desired an extension that would complement the rural setting while working within the structure of the former residence and accommodating their large interstate family. While the old home and its newly renovated form share a similar workable layout, the inhabitant experience has been reimagined through the clear definition of public and private spaces, simplified through the subtle shifting of openings and partitions and the addition of key unifying elements. The open living room has been shifted to the centre axis of the house and now guides one’s view through the communal space to the impressive rural setting beyond. The master suite is a dream retreat with its new location overlooking the tennis court, pool and pool house. A strongly wished for gym was converted from an existing barn on the property into this open, gorgeous, airy fitness room. The junction between old and new is distinct but fluid. A central spinal hallway links the two halves of the building with walls extending from front to back in a continuous line, creating a long, framed vista. #ThrowbackThursday Taking its design cues from modern London townhouses, this Melbourne residence exudes style and elegance providing a comfortable and long-lasting scheme that is timeless. The commission was to completely overhaul the interior and exterior, particularly making the already superb proportions work for family life and to create more light throughout. The concept was to create a city pad inspired by a typical-look London terrace. The exterior paint colour was freshened from ayellow-beige to a crisp warm-white juxtaposed with black window frames and door. The interiors were fully renovated from a new staircase, a reworked layout to improve flow and function to creating more light throughout all the spaces. In the basement, we erected a new stud wall to delineate the garage from the rest of the house. We converted the three-car spot garage into two spots and a new and compact yet valuable office was created. Nestling the office next to the existing theatre, we embraced the moody environment with charcoal walls and ceiling together with a custom-designed tartan carpet.
