SMC is thrilled to welcome Jon Regan-Beasley as the recently appointed Senior Manager of our Data and Modelling Team. Jon previously led the development of Treasury's electricity market modelling capability in the Australian Treasury. Before that, he focused on tax modelling in the Treasury and the Parliamentary Budget Office, collaborating with ministers, parliamentarians, and their advisors on reform proposals for Australia's tax, superannuation, and transfer payment systems. On the appointment, Jon said: "It's such a privilege to join SMC. I'm looking forward to helping our incredibly talented modelling team provide meaningful insights and analysis that advance policy and improve retirement outcomes for all Australians”.

About 700,000 retirees may be paying more tax than necessary due to not switching their superannuation into the tax-free retirement phase. Research shows that these Australians over 65 who are not working full-time still have an accumulation (savings-phase) super account. This situation results in an average additional tax of $650 per year for these retirees. We welcome the Australian Government's plan for mandatory service standards for superannuation funds. This initiative will set minimum service standards, improving customer service in processing death benefits, insurance claims, and member communications.
