About us

The Survive to Thrive Program is an 8 Module, online, evidence-based personal development course designed for current and former service personnel to reach their full potential in mental health and transitioning back to civilian life. The program also provides 24hr access to peer support and mentors for emotional support, accountability and motivation. Feedback suggests a positive transformational experience. The program was created and developed by Dane Christison, a former infantry soldier (East Timor and Iraq veteran) of the Australian Defence Force. Through years of personal development coaching hundreds of current and former service families the program grew quick in popularity and national media attention as veterans gained fast results and felt finally there was a program coached from someone who had lived experience. In short, it’s a program by veterans for veterans. The program has partnered with Open Arms Veteran’s and Families Counselling and external service organisations such as RSL QLD, DefenceCare, Mates4Mates and more. The program conducted a clinical pilot with Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation, a further clinical review with Phoenix Australia Centre for Post-traumatic Mental Health, and a national clinical trial with Open Arms.

  • Thank you RSL Queensland for a great ESO Forum!

Rolling off the back of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, how are you rating your feelings in government successfully implementing the 122 recommendations between ‘cynical and optimistic’? Without a balanced approach either way, most organisations and veterans have experienced pain from the previous 57 enquires resulting in unfulfilled recommendations. However, balanced optimism fuelled by dedicated talent continues to get results, and as long as we are focussed on our own organisations being the best they can be, veterans win. Today we heard from a range of professionals from State Government, to Charities, to Veteran Service Organisations, and one thing is clear, the further we move forward from the recommendations the less weight they can carry. A take away from today is, we are stronger in numbers, we can also identify the recommendations and see them as an opportunity to innovate and solve issues ourselves - as STTN have recently done by creating streamline access through our phone app to psychologists across Australia guaranteeing appointments within 5 days. #identifycreateandinnovate RSL Queensland done an incredible job today with their ESO Forum, providing great speakers, strong advocates for change, and positive talent. All in all, we are all heading in the right direction and more lives are getting saved and changed 🫶 Thank you for the invite to speak! #strongertogether #australianveterans #survivetothrivenation

Happy World Mental Health Day! 😊 No matter what you’re going through, no matter the depth, I promise if you just hold on, the best is yet to come. This year, I am grateful to be operating in a whole new stratosphere in the mental health space. At Survive to Thrive Nation (STTN), we continue to position our hearts and actions towards revolutionising mental health care. Just last Sunday, on October 6th, we launched an innovative psychology service for veterans in Australia. If you download the Survive to Thrive Nation app, with just a click of a button veterans are guaranteed to see a psychologist within just five days. This is a significant step towards making mental health care seamlessly accessible bridging yet another life-saving and changing innovative support gap in the veteran community. On July 11, we expanded our mission with the launch of our groundbreaking Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for the general public. This service pro-actively and reactively supports employees from induction, to job role, through their professional development significantly enhancing a happier, motivated, and supported workplace experience. This is the first time since our inception a decade ago that STTN has broadened its reach beyond the veteran community. The response has been positively overwhelming, and we are proud to be a one-stop shop for mental health support across all industries and company sizes. We’re also excited to announce our new Veteran Employee Assistance Program (VEAP), designed to provide specialised support for veteran employees through our evidence-based services. It’s been a monumental year for STTN—changing and saving lives in the process. Mental health is the cornerstone to success in all our lives, and we believe that everyone deserves - thriving minds, thriving lives, and thriving cultures. Also, special mention to RSL Queensland for another incredible partnership in changing and saving lives in the veteran community. Together, let’s continue to make the world a better place through mental health conversations and support.

  • Last hearing from the Royal Commission into Defence and Veterans Suicide.

Today was the last hearing from the Royal Commission (RC) into Defence and Veteran Suicide but certainly not the last we will hear of the matter. Today CDF Angus Campbell took the stand and answered to the prosecution who didn’t miss an angle - from culture, stigma, abuse of power, assaults (emotionally, physically, sexually), to housing, relationships, identity crisis, financial stress, loss of meaning and purpose, it was an extensive list of issues that have impacted our community and were accepted to be related to self-harm. Prior to the RC there was 57 commissioned inquiries into veteran suicide in which most recommendations were not administered, so the common concern for the community is will these recommendations be resolved? All of us just want the best for our current and former Defence families and it’ll be the execution from primarily both Defence and DVA leadership from here that can keep that hope alive. It was great to meet with Adella Beaini (pictured) and thank her for her story on veteran suicide that assisted in achieving the RC, and I want to say thank you to all the veterans, families, and organisations that have fought so hard for this RC, and continued to show up for it over the past 3 years of investigations and hearings. I know for many of you the fight for results continues. #royalcommissionintoveteransuicide #survivetothrivenation
