  • Swanbury Penglase in partnership with Greenaway Architects and Mantirri Design, are proud to be collaborating with Purkarninthi Elder Group and University of South Australia to design and deliver this significant project.

We are thrilled to announce an exciting development at UniSA, the Aboriginal Knowledges Centre, a home that brings together the University's commitment to Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing. Construction will commence at our City West campus in the second half of 2025. The centre, which in the Kaurna language is Yaitya Ngutu Wardli, will see the redevelopment of the ground floor of UniSA’s Lewis O’Brien/Yarlupurka building and adjacent courtyard. The new centre will include indoor and outdoor spaces that provide a culturally reflective and supportive environment for Aboriginal students, staff and community members. The Centre will facilitate two-way discussions between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples.

  • We are thrilled to continue our partnership with St Columba College in bringing the new Senior School Building to life. This project will relocate the senior school to the Middle School campus, creating a unified, one-campus approach. Additionally, it will replace existing transportable classrooms with modern, high-quality learning environments that prioritise student wellbeing. Thoughtfully designed, these spaces will provide calm, nature-connected settings that foster both learning and support. The project also emphasises seamless indoor-outdoor integration, offering enhanced outdoor learning and social spaces. Scheduled for completion midway through 2026, this project will enhance the learning environment by providing students a more cohesive and supportive space. Client: St Columba College Builder: Partek Construction & Interiors Services Engineers: Lucid Consulting Australia Structural/Civil Engineers: WGA (Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec) Cost Consultant: Chris Sale Consulting Acoustic Consultant: Resonate Consultants

  • We’re thrilled to share the concept design for the New Mount Barker Hospital, nestled on Peramangk Country in South Australia. A collaboration between Swanbury Penglase and Hassell, the design meets the needs of the rapidly growing Mount Barker and Adelaide Hills communities expanding the capacity and capability of the Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network.   The new hospital will triple its inpatient capacity to 102 beds, enhancing services across maternity, paediatrics, rehabilitation, and mental health. Additionally, it will feature new operating theatres, recovery beds, chemotherapy, and renal dialysis services—ensuring comprehensive care for all.   “Grounded in community and the local landscape, the New Mount Barker Hospital will be a culturally sensitive and contemporary place of healing and respite,” says Leanne Guy, Hassell’s Health Sector Lead and Principal.   Community engagement has been at the heart of this project, with the voices of key groups—including the First Nations Community, Peramangk Peoples as Traditional Owners of Country, and the Adelaide Hills Palliative Care Group—informing every step of the design process. Our approach also emphasises the preservation of the neighbouring Duck Flat community gardens and wetlands, promoting biodiversity and enhancing the well-being of patients and staff through a deep connection to nature.   Learn more about the new Mount Barker Hospital project. • Union House Redevelopment, University of Adelaide _ Fitness Hub As part of the Union House Redevelopment, the Fitness Hub for Adelaide University Sport was relocated from level five to a new dedicated space for high performance training and recovery. The new group fitness studio, consultation rooms, recovery facilities and unisex amenities broaden the range of services which the fitness hub can offer to its members. Unique structural and acoustic solutions were integrated in the detailing and finishes of the cardio and weight training areas to limit noise impacts on the other building occupants and functions within the precinct.
