This week we come to the end of a remarkable era, as violist Jane Hazelwood takes her final bow with the Sydney Symphony. Her retirement marks the end of an extraordinary musical legacy spanning generations, beginning in 1952 with her father, Donald Hazelwood, and continuing through her almost 30 years tenure in our Viola section. In the lead up to our recital with Nobuyuki Tsujii, we collaborated with the Sydney Opera House Accessibility team to offer a tactile tour for patrons who are blind or have low vision. This special tour provided access to the stage and featured select items related to the performance, allowing patrons to fully immerse themselves in the concert's atmosphere.

Happy 70th birthday to our Principal Guest Conductor Sir Donald Runnicles! Sir Donald first conducted the Sydney Symphony in 1992, and over the decades has led countless memorable performances and built a deep and lasting relationship with our musicians and our audience. Following another year of stellar performances together, we put him on the spot with a rapid fire Q&A about everything from his greatest extravagance to his secret traditions. Happy birthday, Maestro. We can't wait for another year of music making together in 2025! Browse our 2025 performances with Sir Donald here: sydsymph.com/3Z820Lx

A round of applause to our 2024 Fellows! 👏 This year’s fellowship comprised of 13 young and talented aspiring musicians. They closed their year with an intimate performance at The State Library of New South Wales Auditorium. Under the mentorship of Sydney Symphony musicians, the Fellows had the opportunity to perform in a wide range of our symphonic and chamber programs at Sydney Opera House and for the next generation of musicians in our Schools Concerts. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish in their next chapter! 📸 Jay Patel
