Did you know? Australia and New Zealand have some of the highest rates of asbestos-related diseases in the world? Asbestos can still be found in many homes, public spaces, and commercial buildings, making awareness and proper management essential. During Asbestos Awareness Week (November 18–24 2024), we are reminding everyone of the serious health risks posed by asbestos exposure. Employers and businesses, as Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU), have a legal duty under workplace health and safety laws to protect anyone entering their premises from hazardous materials, including asbestos. For commercial buildings built before 31 December 2003, having an up-to-date asbestos register and management plan is a legal requirement. These documents are vital for maintaining basic compliance and ensuring a safe environment for everyone on site. Richard Wilkinson, Principal WHS Consultant and Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH)®, shares practical advice on how to manage asbestos risks. His video, Asbestos Management Services, offers useful tips and strategies for businesses. Learn more about our services here: https://lnkd.in/gdZMKd6h Together, businesses and organisations can make workplaces safer for everyone. Great to be part of a team making a difference around the world every day!
What happens when you put a bunch of offshore wind experts on a boat? (No, this is not the opening to a joke.) Tetra Tech offshore wind leaders from Australia, the United Kingdom, and United States have been meeting this week to discuss industry trends, innovation, and collaboration opportunities to bring the best of our services to our clients around the world. They got out of the meeting room and into the field for some inspiration on the water—a site visit to the Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind project under construction in Massachusetts. Tetra Tech provides protected species monitoring and mitigation support during construction and developed the oil spill response plan for the project. Some of the team had not seen an offshore wind project of this magnitude before. Getting an up-close look at the project brought a new perspective on the potential of offshore wind and the importance of the work Tetra Tech does every day. The future of design in geotechnical engineering! At the 5th International Conference on Transportation Geotechnics (ICTG2024) in Sydney, Dr. Ching Dai, Senior Principal at Tetra Tech Coffey, delivered a thought-provoking presentation on advancing design methodologies for infrastructure solutions. Ching’s paper, "Evaluating the Necessity of Sliding Mechanisms in Trapezoidal MSE Wall Design," addresses a key geotechnical challenge - enhancing stability while reducing construction costs and complexity. His innovative and #LeadingWithScience research examines the use of trapezoidal Mechanically Stabilised Earth (MSE) walls, offering a sustainable, cost-effective alternative to traditional designs. Key takeaways from Ching’s research: Optimised design: Trapezoidal MSE walls may reduce the need for sliding mechanisms without compromising stability. · Optimised design: Trapezoidal MSE walls may reduce the need for sliding mechanisms without compromising stability. · Sustainability in action: Practical applications have demonstrated the effectiveness of these designs in real-world projects. · Engineering advancements: Providing new insights to inform future standards and make infrastructure solutions more efficient.
