The program is a response to a range of needs expressed by current school principals about enabling them to thrive and develop in the role; reflect on their experience and gain knowledge / capabilities that will enable to respond to the furure. What are the 6 Rs? Reflection, Renewal,Relatedness,Refresh,Refine, Reach Out! The program will be offered nationally and open to all Principals in the Catholic education community. The program features global experts such as Harvard’s Dean Williams. Emeritus Professor Patrick Duignan and I are delighted that a chapter from our edited text, Leading Education Systems will be included in the global Education Seminar series by UNESCO’s International Institute for Education Planning. The chapter written by world renowned education policy thought leader, Beatriz Pont entitled Leading Education Change Internationally: Towards a New Approach will be used to support the formation of education policy personnel and planners from across the globe. We are grateful to have Beatriz present in The Brown Collective’s system leadership program. Last week I had the pleasure of working with the third cohort of future principals in the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Pathways to Principalship program. An amazing group of educators. The second and final phase of our study tour to the dynamic, innovative city, island State and country of Singapore. What a wonderful experience for our delegation-a great blend of cultural and educational learning experiences. The setting of Nanyang Technological University Singapore and the National Institute of Education, Singapore provided the opportunity for the group to explore Singapore’s approach to leadership formation for principalship, initial teacher preparation, preparation of future ready learners and a key area of research focus, the science of reading-SOLEC. A special thank you to Kace Wong David Ng and colleagues for their generous support and engagement. The Academy of Singapore Teachers provided insights into how system continues to support and development its workforce. A visit to the Australian High Commission was a privilege. The dialogue with Deputy High Commissioner, Emily Follett was very insightful and added to our understanding of the Singapore / Asian region from our national perspective. A special thanks to Dr Mike O'Connor for his assistance in arranging visits to Dulwich College (Singapore)and North London Collegiate School School. Shelley Swain and Nick Magnus MBE -just exceptional student centred schools-a pedagogical society run by students-simply brilliant. Finally, to our exceptional team of Australian educators who stayed curious,engaged,used their ‘travellers eyes’ Simon Banks and created lifelong connections. So nationally, there have been very public cases reported of governance failures involving school boards, headmasters,principals,school systems,parents and students. Sadly, in my experience, the ones that attract publicity are only ‘the tip of the iceberg’. They don’t reflect the number of governance breakdowns that result in prolonged and significant professional and reputational damage. A reunion twenty six years in the making! During my recent visit to Singapore I reconnected with Adjunct Harvard Professor Dean Williams. Dean along with the iconic Ronald Heifetz pioneered the work on Adaptive Leadership. My formation as a leader was and has been significantly shaped by this work.
