Here is a story from a survivor who experienced modern slavery with 13 friends on an Australian farm in 1988: “Though the physical scars have healed, the emotional wounds still hold weight. "The trauma of it never goes away," he told ABC. "We'd work over 60 hours a week, seven days. I never saw a pay cheque or contract." The Freedom Hub provides the only specialised life-long support and recovery for people who have experienced this crime in our country. Basic human rights at work breached at sea. Most of our store products, cars, supplies etc come from cargo vessels. “They are the people behind billions of dollars of imports and exports that flow in and out of Australia every day. But advocates for international seafarers say crew aboard the massive cargo vessels plying their trade on global sea lanes can face limited food, substandard water, and stolen wages.” “More than 26,000 foreign-flagged vessels arrive in Australian waters each year. Last year, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) carried out 2,264 inspections and received 169 Maritime Labour Convention complaints, with 105 of those related to bulk carriers.
