Laptops to change lives.
About us
The Laptop Initiative, is a charity committed to addressing the digital gap in Australia, they do this by distributing surplus laptops to empower those in need. By redistributing unwanted devices, they strive to help the more than 2 million Australians suffering from the “Digital Divide”. Their target audiences are women escaping domestic violence, disadvantaged youth, refugee and asylum seekers. There are a number of reasons companies participate - they directly contribute to bridging the digital divide while actively demonstrating their environmental commitment by reducing digital waste. In addition, involving employees in philanthropic activities boosts morale, fosters team cohesion, and strengthens corporate culture. Supporting charitable initiatives reflects positively on a company's governance practices, ethical standards, and stakeholder trust, contributing to long-term sustainability.

🌟 Heartfelt Thanks to Interpublic! 🌟 Thanks to Jayke Browne and Interpublic Group (IPG)'s incredible laptop donations, we’ve been able to transform lives through The Laptop Initiative. 💻✨ Meet Loay, a young Syrian refugee student, whose heartfelt message reminds us why this work matters. Through the generosity of IPG and the partnership with Albury Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau (AWVRB), Loay now has a laptop that will empower him in his studies and build a brighter future. 🙌 “Thank you for this laptop! It will help me so much with my schoolwork.” – Loay But that’s not all. Below is another touching testimonial from Tulinabo, a young lady from DR Congo: “Thank you to the AWVRB and The Laptop Initiative. This laptop will help me with my studies and use it for all of the technology applications for daily life. And in a year, I am excited because I can use it to gain my learner's driving permit.” This is the tangible impact of our Corporate Heroes generosity. Each laptop gives access to education, opportunities, and independence for those who need it most. 💡 Together, we’re not just providing laptops—we’re creating opportunities and inspiring hope. #LaptopInitiative #Interpublic #CorporateSocialResponsibility #ClosingTheDigitalDivide #TechForGood ❤️ Join us and make an impact. A heartfelt thank you to Cheryl Sing from The Laptop Initiative for donating 20 laptops at our Centre yesterday 🙌 Without a safety net, people seeking asylum often struggle to access mobile phones and computers. Every device donation to the ASC can help someone to study, look for work, contact family, and deal with government agencies and organisations. Thank you Cheryl! 💙 Find out how to donate a device: https://loom.ly/7A9q4SY #AsylumSeekersCentre #ASC

Visiting impactful charities is always a humbling experience. Today, we had the privilege of visiting the Asylum Seekers Centre in Newtown, where their work touches countless lives. Providing laptops is just one way they empower those seeking asylum to connect, learn, pursue employment, and access vital services. It was a pleasure to meet William Hausler who looks after their IT support. I’m proud to share that we helped make some progress in reducing their waitlist for laptops, which currently has 150 names. A heartfelt thank you to the corporate partners who made this possible: Mark Towers, Operations Manager at Pack & Send Crow’s Nest, has been instrumental in preparing donated laptops for their new owners. Olivia Scott, Sales Manager at Ogury ANZ, and her team have been incredibly supportive. And a big shoutout to Caleb Harriott and the fantastic team at GoTransit Media Group for their ongoing contributions. Together, we’re helping to create meaningful connections and opportunities for those in need! Kevin Tunney Tania Ewing Bradley Apps Geoff Greenwood Carole Wallace Pedro Santos

The Laptop Initiative is having a big week in the wonderful state of WA!!! Here is a pic to make our hearts sing - it is a photo of students in the library in Newman WA which is 1200 kilometres or 10 hours drive north of Perth. The students are using laptops gifted because of the generosity of Interpublic Group (IPG) and they are busily working on the online programs coordinated by our Charity Partners Creative Bytes. The work in the Pilbarra by Creative Bytes is being supported by BHP and also includes the towns of Dandaragan and Nullagine. When the laptops are not in use by the students they are available to others in these remote communities so helping many in these remote locations. Also last Saturday we did a radio interview with the lovely Amber Cunningham on ABC Perth to share with the listeners our work and how they could support us by just asking companies they come in contact with "Where do your laptops go when you replace them??" This is all very exciting. We have some great charity partners in Perth and we love their work and we have an amazing very important volunteer in Carole Wallace - so together we all can do some great things!!!! This lovely man is John Denlay, he and his wife and 3 other couples are part of the CRISP pilot program of the Federal Government to help newly arrived immigrants with permanent visas. They are in SA and are helping an Iranian family of 4 settle in to Australia through practical help such as settling into a home, finding services, accessing schools, SIM cards, bank accounts, furniture etc etc. There are great people like John's group all around Australia helping newly arrived families settle through this program. The Laptop Initiative was able to supply these 2 laptops for use by this family and with these they will be able access services, learn English, look for work and connect with the community. These wonderful laptops were donated by Interpublic Group (IPG) Group. Thank you John for reaching out and we hope we can help more CRISP families in the near future. We love your work. Yesterday The Laptop Initiative had an excellent meeting with Michael Regan MP who is the independent member for Wakehurst. Michael brought a unique perspective to our discussion as a former Mayor of Warringah and Northern Beaches Council, he has a immense experience of community needs and government perspectives from a local and a state view. So discussing all things laptops, the aim of reuse, donation to our target audiences and the need to enlist many Corporate Heroes to join our cause made for a lively discussion. Spreading the word is so important and reaching out to those who may lend a hand is part of what we do - so watch this space!!! Thank you Michael Regan MP and @Ishbell Cullen his wonderful Research Officer it was great to meet you both. And as a PS yes the high tea at NSW Parliament House is the best in Sydney and yes I am going to spread the word that it is open to the public with amazing views!!!
