PGA reduced to 54 holes as weather takes toll. It has been a hugely challenging and frustrating week for the Royal Queensland Golf Club tournament crew, with a horrid stretch of wet weather marring the lead-in and opening to this week’s BMW Australian PGA Championship. After the course copped nearly 250mm of rain over the past 12 days, DP World Tour tournament organisers were forced to abandon today’s second round after more persistent rain left large parts of the course unplayable. RTO MILESTONE AS CERT III STUDENTS COMPLETE The ASTMA’s training division reached a substantial milestone this week with Mitchell Bennett (Adelaide Oval) and Oliver Davis (Royal Adelaide GC) becoming the first two apprentices to graduate after successfully completing their Certificate III in Sports Turf Management. On Monday evening the NSWGCSA joined with Golf NSW, PGA Australia, GMA, WPGA and Jack Newton Junior Golf to honour the game’s top achievers at the 2024 NSW Golf Industry Awards. The NSWGCSA handed out four of the 18 awards on the evening which spanned everything from course and club management, playing performance, volunteer service and coaching. Bankstown Golf Club’s David Somerville has taken out the New South Wales Golf Course Superintendents Association’s Superintendent of the Year Award. General booth sales for the 2025 Australian Turfgrass Conference Trade Exhibition are now being taken. After the allocation of booths for ASTMA Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Partner companies as well as exhibitors from this year’s Brisbane conference, over 90 per cent of the trade exhibition floorspace for next year’s event in Sydney has already been sold. ASTMA Gold Partners John Deere and Envu, together with the ASTMA, are thrilled to announce their collaboration on the 2025 Women in Turf initiative. The new program will combine a work placement opportunity at the Webex Players Series Murray River tournament in January and a year-long mentoring and development program.
