About us

The Mary Potter Foundation, a South Australian charity, has been around since 1987 when it was recognised that the Mary Potter Hospice could not survive without support from the community. A group of dedicated people closely associated with the Hospice formed an auxiliary that became an incorporated association in 1988. Since then, thanks to the support of generous and caring South Australians the Mary Potter Hospice has remained as one of the most important and highly regarded providers of in-patient palliative and end of life care. Hundreds of patients and their families every year are so grateful for the compassion, the dignity and the love that the Hospice team brings into their lives. The Mary Potter Foundation has been privileged to play a part through community support to ensure that care is there every day it is needed, and that the facilities along with staff skills and knowledge are continually improved to provide the best possible environment and standard of care for everyone.

  • Today, with the help of the SA Power Networks Employee Foundation, we brought the festive spirit of Christmas in July to the Hospice 🎄 Christmas lunch was provided to patients, their families & visitors and the Hospice staff & volunteers. Everyone was treated to a delicious Christmas roast and a delightful dessert, featuring traditional Christmas puddings. A heartfelt thanks to the wonderful SA Power Networks & Enerven employees who helped spread the love with us today - decorating the halls, assembling bon-bons and delivering lunch and drinks to each room 💝

  • Last month Vicki and Bec from the Foundation attended a school assembly at Blackfriars Priory School, to cheer on some very brave students and staff members taking part in the Blackfriars Priory School 2024 Greatest Shave. 💖 There was a wonderful feeling in the school community on this day and we’re truly grateful to have been part of it. Over $7,000 was raised from this event and we are so humbled by the incredible Blackfriars students and teachers - and by the love they have for patients and families receiving palliative and end-of-life care. But they weren't done there….a few weeks later the school also participated in our annual Walk for Love – with the team organised by Year 10 student and Walk for Love Ambassador, Nathan. Their support of Walk for Love took the total amount raised by Blackfriars in 2024 to over $14,000 – what an achievement. Thank you to the inspiring Blackfriars Priory School community for taking part in these events and supporting patients and families in our care – we are so grateful! 💜

  • Yesterday we held our annual Walk for Love. 💖 We were truly blessed with exceptional weather and attendance exceeded all expectations. 🌞 Over 1,200 family members, friends, donors, staff, and volunteers came together to remember loved ones and to give thanks for the care. It was a special day. We were deeply moved by the kindness and generosity shown to us. Thanks to each individual/team who fundraised, those who made a donation, and everyone who purchased from our Walk for Love Village, we achieved our goal. We are over the moon with this result, which will provide loving patient care in the weeks ahead. ✨ We simply could not do what we do without those who support the work of the Foundation. 💜 On behalf of our event sponsors RAA and DBH Lawyers and our team at the Foundation; we are so grateful for the support we received. 💖

  • It's a big week here at the Foundation. ✨ Not only are we counting the days until the 2024 Walk for Love, but we are also celebrating National Palliative Care Week 2024. 💖 National Palliative Care Week is the nation’s largest annual awareness-raising initiative. It is all about highlighting the real and growing need to educate and empower Australians about quality of life towards the end of life. Whether you or someone you know is receiving palliative care, or you have a loved one who spent their final days receiving palliative care - you know how important this care is. To commemorate this week, the Hospice has been adorned in colourful butterflies and interactive displays - all thanks to the lovely Hospice team. 🦋 🏷️ Palliative Care Australia Palliative Care South Australia

  • Our hearts are full of gratitude - all thanks to the CMV Group Staff Foundation who recently presented us with a generous donation. This will go towards the Fra Angelico Creative Arts Program for Home Care patients. 🎨 This special art program, provided through Pastoral Care is an opportunity for creativity and mindfulness. The process of making art helps patients and their families to slow down, take a break from stressful thoughts, and focus on the senses. Thank you to CMV Group Staff Foundation for giving this gift to patients and their families. 💖

  • In 1999 SA Power Networks sponsored our Lighting of the Loving Tree for the first time. 🎄 Every year since then, they have supported this event, by lighting up the lights on the tree at the front of Mary Potter Hospice and covering the cost of our Carols Concert. Over 1,000 lights were dedicated to a loved one last Christmas. This event is so important to our families. We are so grateful for SA Power Networks commitment to this event and for supporting the work we do to bring love and care to over 600 patients (and their families) each year. 💖 Last week Lorna and Jess attended a Community Partnerships Event where SA Power Networks shared their 2023 Community Partnerships Impact Report. We're so proud to be an SA Power Networks Community Partner. We have had the honour of caring for many SA Power Networks staff and family members over the years. For us to be able to give back in this way, means so much to us. Thank you! 💜
