Making NSW a better place to live, work and visit.

About us

We’re a New South Wales government organisation leading the group of transport agencies and divisions that keep NSW moving. With over 25,000 people working right across NSW, we drive the continual development of safe, integrated and efficient transport systems such as road, rail and maritime networks. We’re committed to delivering better transport for the future of NSW, shaping our cities, centres and communities for generations to come. Right now, we’re delivering an ambitious and once-in-a-generation $72.2 billion program of public infrastructure works – the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia’s history. That means more job opportunities than ever before in metropolitan and regional areas right across the state – and your chance to make a lasting impact that will benefit generations to come. If you think Transport for NSW is home only to engineers, tradies and mechanics, think again. We've got roles you may not expect to see at Transport – from drone operators to graphic designers, Crash Lab technicians to boating safety officers, bridge engineers to demand planners, and all kinds of experts in between. In an organisation that’s as large, diverse and dynamic as Transport for NSW, there are thousands of opportunities. But it’s not just about what we do – it’s the way that we do it. We’re taking a new approach to the way we work. We’re embracing new technology and new ways of working. We’re building an open work culture where our people from a diverse range of backgrounds can thrive and continue to innovate. The road ahead is full of possibility and there’s plenty of work to do. We need great people to help us get it done.

🐢 Shell-ebrating a turtle-y amazing success! 🐢 In October 2023, Western Sydney University and Transport for NSW launched an innovative conservation project along The Northern Road, Western Sydney. AI dashcam tech revealed the area as a turtle hotspot, just in time for nesting season. Low-level barriers and culvert escape routes were installed, creating safe, guided pathways for turtles to cross without harm. The results? From October 2023 to March 2024, there were zero turtle injuries or deaths at the trial sites at The Northern Road and Elizabeth Drive intersection and Castlereagh Road near Penrith Lakes - a total shell-ebration of success! 🐢 Motion-sensor cameras captured the project’s incredible impact. What’s next? As a first for NSW, permanent turtle barriers will be installed along the M12 Motorway in time for it’s opening in 2026, prioritising creek lines and culvert crossings. Plus, the trial data will inform future turtle-friendly projects like the Elizabeth Drive upgrade. As Western Sydney continues to transform, Transport remains focused on its commitment to sustainable initiatives that support local wildlife, including our freshwater turtle populations. #Conservation #Sustainability #WildlifeProtection #TransportforNSW #WesternSydney

The winners for the 2024 Premier’s Awards have been announced! The awards highlight and celebrate the world class services delivered by the NSW public sector to the state’s people. This year, Transport had 5 outstanding finalists. A big shout out to Infrastructure & Place for their honourable mention of The Bowe Kerb in the Excellence in Service Delivery category. Our Roads and Traffic Engineering team in collaboration with the Centre for Road Safety and Crash Lab have designed a new redirective kerb (the Bowe Kerb) that reduces the risk of a vehicle leaving the roadway, improving road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers and setting the new standard for redirective kerbs. A big congratulations to all the 56 teams and individuals who were nominated for this year’s Premier’s Awards! #PremiersAwards #NSWPublicSector #TransportForNSW

Did you know that workplace inclusion means more than just a seat at the table - it’s about recognising and valuing unique experiences? At Transport, we value a diverse workforce and are committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. This includes supporting our neurodivergent employees. Each year, we celebrate October as ADHD & Learning Disabilities Awareness Month. This year's theme, 'Awareness is Key,' highlights the importance of raising awareness to better support individuals with ADHD and other learning disabilities, both at work and in the community. It also fosters understanding among colleagues and employers. In our Myth Busters Video Series hosted by Prugya Maini (pictured), we highlighted key topics such as: 💡 Looping: When your thoughts get stuck in a repetitive cycle without resolution. 💡 Spiralling: Feelings of self-doubt, anxiety, and worthlessness that can lead to social withdrawal or depression. 💡 Ableism: Discrimination and social prejudice against people with disabilities, often marginalising those who don’t fit the norm. By raising awareness, we can identify and understand these behaviours, manage them better, and foster a more supportive workplace. Sharing stories of lived experiences helps challenge perceptions and drive positive change. #ADHDAwareness #Neurodiversity #InclusiveWorkplace #LearningDisabilities #TransportforNSW

On October 29-30, Transport’s Marine Pollution and Emergency Response (MPER) team led Exercise Dumaresq, simulating a container ship incident off the coast of the Tweed resulting in a 202-tonne oil spill. Based on the real-life incident of the Pacific Adventurer in 2013, this exercise allowed us to test and maintain our critical capabilities in keeping our waterways clean and safe for the community. This large-scale event crossed borders and brought together over 200 personnel from agencies across government and Australia such as Maritime Safety Queensland, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, NSW Environment Protection Authority, National Parks NSW, Port Authority of NSW, Environment Protection Authority Tasmania, TasPorts, Australian Marine Oil Spill Centre (AMOSC), Department of Transport Victoria and Fire and Rescue NSW as well as NSW Maritime and Transport. This was a powerful collaboration of expertise and resources. With invaluable guidance from cultural liaison officers and Indigenous rangers, we ensured our efforts respected the cultural and environmental sensitivities of the region. Marine teams conducted on-water operations, deploying booms and practicing skimming techniques using the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s self-propelled Marco oil skimmer, supported by Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) at Tweed Heads. This exercise showcased the strength and collaboration of our national network in marine pollution emergency response. #MarineResponse #Collaboration #EnvironmentalProtection #Maritime #TransportforNSW

Transport for NSW has an obligation to assess the impact of our activities on the environment including any significant impact on threatened species and their habitat. Many of us embrace the spooky season with decorations and costumes. One creature that often finds its way into Halloween lore is the bat. In NSW, microbats face real dangers due to human activities, including construction and maintenance work on Transport structures like bridges, culverts and wharves. Earlier in the year, when inspecting the McLeans Bridge for a scour repair, the project team found a large colony of more than 150 microbats, including at least 3 threatened species, roosting in the concrete bridge cavities. 🦇🦇🦇 To ensure that the microbats were not spooked by the potentially disruptive works on the bridge, the Environment and Sustainability team worked with ecologists to develop a microbat management plan for the project. Guided by Transport’s Microbat management guidelines, the committed project team avoided construction during the bats’ torpor— a deep rest period essential for conserving energy — as well as during their breeding seasons. By carefully timing our works and monitoring the area, we’re committed to minimising disruptions and safeguarding these fascinating creatures. And we’re happy to announce that after all the works, the microbats are still happily roosting under the bridge. 🌉🦇 #Sustainability #Environment #TransportForNSW

🚂 Looking for a job that takes you through fields of canola and stunning scenery? Samantha Mclean has found just that as one of only four female long-distance regional train drivers in NSW. Starting as a station attendant in 2007 with NSW TrainLink, Sam worked her way up to train guard, then a driver on Sydney’s suburban network. At the same time she was also driving heavy defence vehicles and trains in the Army Reserve - before even having a full driver’s license. 🏡 In 2022, Sam embraced a post-COVID tree change, relocating with her family to Junee in regional NSW, home of the driver depot for the Melbourne to Sydney route. Sam’s skills have been put to great use with the recent surge in XPT patronage. Nearly 295,000 customers travelled on the Sydney to Melbourne route in 2023/2024—a 26% increase from the previous year.
