Tribeca Investment Partners is bullish on the year ahead as China ramps up fiscal spending, boosting domestic consumption and increasing demand for industrial commodities. “We believe commodity markets are positioned for a stellar 2025 following a number of frustrating years,” said Ben Cleary, Portfolio Manager of Tribeca’s Global Natural Resources Fund. Tribeca is most bullish on copper, labelling its top picks as global leaders that are producing at the bottom of the cost curve. These include Glencore, Anglo American, Freeport-McMoRan and Teck Resources. In Australia, Mr Cleary likes Develop Global. Guy Keller, Portfolio Manager of Tribeca Nuclear Energy Opportunities Strategy, sees strong potential in nuclear energy as global demand for clean, baseload power rises, driven by trends like demand from AI & Data Centres. He highlights Boss Energy, an Australian uranium producer operating in Australia and Texas, as significantly undervalued and poised for growth once thematic short interest fades. Guy notes a shift in Australia’s attitude toward nuclear energy, with younger generations recognizing its low-carbon benefits and growing calls to lift the nuclear ban, which could attract investment and spark broader discussions. Despite political nuances, Keller’s portfolio remains globally focused and leveraged to tech and sustainability drivers. Todd Warren, Portfolio Manager of Tribeca 2050 Strategy, discusses recent shifts in his fund, which is increasing exposure to liquid assets related to the energy transition, such as uranium and copper. He highlights Boss Energy, an ASX-listed uranium stock, as undervalued and well-positioned due to rising global demand for nuclear power, driven partly by tech giants seeking clean energy solutions for data centers. Boss Energy, which is operating in stable jurisdictions, is one of the most shorted stocks on the ASX, making it a potential candidate for a short squeeze if market sentiment shifts. Warren also sees positive signals in China’s stimulus measures, which aim to stabilize local government debt and boost consumer confidence. Additionally, he recommends Saké Restaurant in Sydney and "The Howie Games" podcast for its engaging interviews. John Stover Portfolio Manager of Tribeca Asia Credit Fund, shares his cautious approach to risk amid recent Federal Reserve rate cuts, emphasizing a balanced allocation between Investment Grade (IG) and High Yield (HY) assets. He notes that while rate cuts benefit IG bonds, he may gradually increase exposure to HY investments over the next year, though he remains cautious about a potential U.S. recession. Stover’s strategy involves unique HY sectors such as Indian renewable energy and Indonesian real estate, often avoided by other managers, and is supported by protective hedges like credit default swaps. This approach has yielded over 15% annually in recent years with low volatility, balancing income generation and capital appreciation.
