Congratulations to Geoff Evans for winning the 2024 Outstanding Contribution in Veteran and/or Partner Employment award. Geoff is a true example of continuing to serve. After his ADF service, Geoff founded Disaster Relief Australia, bringing together veterans, first responders, and volunteers for disaster recovery. Geoff’s focus on mental health, skills development and meaningful engagement through volunteering has created valuable pathways for the veteran community. This award is in recognition of the support enabled by Geoff to the veteran community for developing Disaster Relief Australia into an exemplar that shows the benefits of applying military skills in new roles. His significant contribution has changed the conversation around the value and application of military skills and experience in civilian life – in both paid or volunteer roles. Congratulations to AeroPM for winning the 2024 Excellence in Supporting Veteran and/or Partner Employment – National Award. AeroPM has been recognised for its dedication to employing veterans. As an organisation built predominantly by former ADF personnel – 80 per cent of its workforce – AeroPM exemplifies the incredible value veterans bring to the defence sector. “This award recognises our fantastic staff. At the moment, AeroPM is 80% veterans and 30% partners of veterans. That number doesn't quite add up to a 100%. So you can see that there are a number of our veterans who are also veterans, or partners of each other, like myself and Emily” – Adam Frizell AeroPM’s commitment to harnessing skills has set a new standard in the defence industry. With 55% of employees transitioning directly from the ADF, AeroPM retains the valuable qualifications, skills, and experiences of veterans, fostering ongoing advancement and capability within the sector. “We should care for our veterans because the skills that they've developed whilst in the defence force are amazing and make an excellent contribution to any workplace. It's really important that employers and workplaces recognise what veterans can bring” - Emily Frizell of AeroPM.
