We recently held our highly anticipated Virgin Flair Annual Awards Night in Brisbane. The Virgin Flair Awards is a program that recognises individuals across our entire network who consistently demonstrate our ‘Virgin Flair’ values daily with their colleagues, guests and the business. Nominated by their peers, the program highlights those who exemplify and live our values of #WePutSafetyFirst, #WeHaveABigHeart, #WeOwnIt and #WeDoTheRightThing. Our Executive Leadership Team played a crucial role in the selection process by choosing a group of our quarterly winners as finalists. These outstanding individuals then joined us for our Annual Awards night where we announced the overall Virgin Flair winners for 2024. We want to once more congratulate and thank all our nominees and winners! Their incredible contributions and commitment to our values truly showcase what Virgin Flair is all about. #VirginAustralia

Friday marked a new record for Virgin Australia. We are proud to have carried more than 75,900 guests travelling across our network – the most passengers flown in a single day in our 24-year history. This is a significant milestone delivered with flair and a strong drive to work together as one team across all parts of our airline. On these busy days, it requires our entire team to come together and support the operation, making sure our fantastic operational teams have everything they need to serve the community effectively. The result is wonderful guest experiences delivered consistently across our business regardless of the number of guests in our network on the day. We are also incredibly proud to be supporting the more than 100,000 Rex passengers accommodated on our services free-of-charge since July this year. We expect by the time we finish, Virgin Australia will have carried over 135,000 stranded Rex passengers. This incredible effort is a credit to the entire Virgin Australia team, and the exceptional value, choice, and service they work hard to deliver every day.

Our mission is to be Australia’s most loved airline by creating uplifting experiences for everyone. This is why we partnered with What Ability, an organisation committed to access and inclusion in disability support. Last week we welcomed five participants, their support workers and AFL stars Steven May and Jack Payne, for a behind-the-scenes day at our Brisbane facilities, starting with a personal video from Sir Richard Branson. What Ability also led a workshop to help our team better understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities, giving us valuable insights as we strive to grow in this area. #WhatAbility #VirginAustralia

Our strategic partnership with Qatar Airways continues to deepen, with collaboration on sustainability initiatives under a newly inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Advancing the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Low Carbon Aviation Fuel in Australia is a key area of focus under the MoU, which also extends to collaboration on waste and energy management, sustainable procurement, and aviation workforce development. “This is our first sustainability-focused MoU with a partner airline, reflecting the growing and strategic nature of our relationship with Qatar Airways,” says Virgin Australia’s Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer, Christian Bennett. We are pleased to be supporting the significant efforts of the Australian Government and our partner, Qatar Airways, in assisting with the repatriation of Australian citizens, permanent residents, and immediate family from Lebanon to Australia via Cyprus.    Thanks to the swift assistance of Qatar Airways, the first repatriation flight from Cyprus via Doha to Australia arrived in Sydney on Monday evening carrying some 350 passengers. A further service landed this afternoon, Tuesday 8 October. Over 600 passengers have arrived on these two dedicated charter flights to Australia operated by Qatar Airways.   To further support those who travelled on these flights and who require onward travel from Sydney, Virgin Australia is providing free-of-charge carriage to ports across Australia. We encourage eligible passengers on these flights to contact our Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89, where we have a team on standby to book them on the next available services.   We would like to acknowledge, once again, Qatar Airways’ significant support to assist Australians in need. We are also grateful to our people on the ground at the airports and across our support centres for their professionalism and care while providing vital assistance to these guests as they arrive safely in Australia.

Today we announced our existing partnership with Qatar Airways Group will be strengthened with its intention to acquire a 25 per cent minority stake in Virgin Australia, subject to Australian Government approval. This is an important milestone in Virgin Australia’s future return to the Australian public market. Qatar Airways Group’s strategic investment will provide access to critical scale and the knowledge and capability of a world-leading global airline. Our team is the heart of Virgin Australia and this proposed investment is huge recognition of their talent and hard work in rebuilding Australia’s most loved airline. Every one of our 8,000 team members has played a significant role in enabling this investment by Qatar Airways Group.   The investment enables Virgin Australia to make a measured entry into long-haul international flying by mid-2025 through a wet lease arrangement with Qatar Airways. This will ensure Australians have access to even better value airfares and greater choice, with significant flow-on benefits for competition and the Australian economy. It will deliver additional customer benefits, including expanded codeshare arrangements and increased earn and redemption opportunities between Velocity and Qatar Airways’ Privilege Club.
