  • In the last set of works on the beautiful Lawrence Hargrave drive, on the stunning south coast of NSW, we were tasked by our long time friends Retaining Specialist to assist them drilling soil nails in a small section of road where a slip occurred. After a couple of days of de-veg and scaling the site was ready for drilling. Given the nature of the slope and the need to keep the footpath open to pedestrians, the solution was to use a small A-frame mounted Ripamonti hydraulic mast, with enough grunt to drill 6m deep soil nails, 150mm in diameter. We were able to minimise the impact on the footpath by setting up barriers and running hoses through a clamshell cable organiser, while having a digger on the road powering the mast. After that it was time for some meshing. Here's a few pictures of the site looking nearly ready for some shotcrete. Once again our small tipper truck with a PALFINGER AG crane made everyone's life easier by being able to lift the drill rig in and out of the slope and lowering the panels of mesh in position with little effort by the guys on ropes, which were able to guide the panels in safely and precisely.

  • How do you boost drilling production? By bringing in the big guns, of course! Here's an example on the latest job for our friends at The RIX Group on the Princes Highway in Waterfall, NSW. The high capacity road required night work to minimise traffic disruption and a tight schedule needed some efficiency to go through the scope timely. Meet RIX's 23T digger and their Ripamonti EX321 drill mast. The right tool for the job. The boys managed to drill 31 holes in one shift, for a total of 124 linear meters of drilling in about 6 hours, great effort!

  • A few pictures from the last two weeks working for our good friends at The RIX Group. The client Select Civil had recently extended the back wall of their yard to a vertical and smooth finish, but some concern were raised on the stability of the newly cut section. The solution was the trusted Maccaferri double twist mesh for the full length of the wall, about 48m. Another job for our Marini Quarries Group srl pneumatic mast that feel comfortable on its a-frame as much as on the telehandler platform the fabrication team at RIX built. For once we kept the ropes in the warehouse and relied on some machinery to do the heavy lifting and it went as smooth as it could've. Many thanks to the RIX team for their help and to Allan from Select civil for making us comfortable at their yard. Fun fact: to help the telehandler driver align the mast efficiently the team positioned the anchors vertically on top of the hole locations to have a visual guide from the cab of the machine on the ground

  • CMC The Specialift S22HD. This is our latest purchase and we can only speak highly of this fine piece of machinery. Compared to other elevated work platforms on wheels with a similar reach, this spider lift only weighs 3 tons (compared to 8+ tons) and while packed up can fit through gaps as narrow as 1 meter. As a rope access company, we can reach and work in most places and this ewp definitely fits in this philosophy. Safety ladder installs, offsiding drill rigs, performing arborist and de-vegetation work, building inspections. It's great to have something that makes life easier!

Check out this video for one of The RIX Group recent jobs at Mermaids Inlet, Jervis Bay. It is awesome! Located way out on the cliffs of the Northern peninsula in Jervis Bay right on the oceans edge this challenging job was completed by rope access technicians Although not a huge scope of works, a lot of time and effort was put into the planning, coordination and logistics to ensure safe delivery of a quality job for our Client. As there was no vehicle access to the site, all building materials inclusive of 26x bulka bags of cement, 1.3t of structural steel beams and props, stainless steel rockbolts and mesh, 2x grout pots, safety fencing and 1x sled drill mast were all dropped in and retrieved by helicopter from 1x pick up point and 3x different drop off points with 4km between points. Given the geographic location and public presence, everything had to be 110%. The aim of this project was to support the entrance to the cave in Gosangs Tunnel and make the cliff face safe for the public below. With this in mind, all rock bolts and hardware were 316 stainless steel and structural steel was galvanised with specialist epoxy coating to endure the harsh environment. The scope of works included rock scaling works, grout infill of seam for erosion control, supply and installation of rock bolts and structural steel props and beams and the installation of safety fencing and signs. The RIX Group would like to thank everyone involved in the project, including: ·       The estimating team for providing a comprehensive and detailed bid for the works – not an easy one to price! ·       Our steel fabrication team for all their efforts in a quick turnaround and quality work from shop drawing to fabrication. ·       Logistics team for coordinating all deliveries like clockwork. ·       The rope access technicians for the excellent and safe execution of the works on site ·       Our project management team, who went over and above to ensure first class delivery of the works and Client liaison. ·       Currarong Bowling club for lending us their carpark to land the chopper! (If you are ever there, drop in for refreshments, it is an excellent spot with top people). Great effort by all and a great example of the versatility in the range of services available at The RIX Group

  • As this beautiful job for Crown Land (Jervis Bay area) is coming to a close here's a snippet of the work we carried out. Part of the scope included installation of steel structure to support the entrance of Gosangs tunnel, an incredible natural feat of this beautiful place. The challenge was to lift the heavy beam inside the cave, only 2.5 meter tall. On top of that we had to protect the double corrosion coating (galvanised steel and a coat of epoxy paint on top) from any damage. It was a good challenge and to see the structure in its final position was the best reward. To complete this item on the scope we packed the top of the beam with structural grout to make contact with the roof of the cave (not shown in the video). Once again this was a collaboration with our good friends at The RIX Group. In particular their experience in steelwork guaranteed an installation as close to perfect as one can get, ensuring a long lasting product in the highly corrosive environment. Many thanks to James Lucke and Shehre Yar Khan for their help throughout the project!

  • This Marini Quarries Group srl MR-2PN is our trusted drill rig of choice. Here's why: - lightweight. Easy to deploy in flat ground and on the steep and vertical it really is the top rig the market has to offer. - reliable. Pneumatic powered rigs have less moving parts, while still delivering some serious torque. As long as there's adequate lubrication and the airlines are kept well clean, this rig will run forever. - versatility. So far we've tried this rig in different configurations. On its frame, off a telehandler mounted platform, on scaffolding. It's remarkable how, with some creativity, you can drill holes even in the tightest spaces. A big thanks to Terraquip Drilling Equipment for supplying the rig and Dean Bettin for the DTH hammer and rods.
