Thanks to everyone who made #ANZMAC2024 such an amazing opportunity to connect with the Australia & New Zealand marketing crew–had fun, learned a ton, had the chance to finally meet many colleagues in person, made a bunch of new friends, and also super importantly had fun! Great community you’ve got there ANZMAC! 🏆 ✨Plus, as an added bonus I got to see two platypus in the Hobart Rivulet on a perfect day of sightseeing after the conference! (👋 from the “ambitious introverts who love nature” Tassie target market!) Tasmania needs to be on everyone’s travel list!✨ just a few of many highlights… ➡️ High school student Beatrice Chong’s presentation on her experiment investigating normative messages on signage to encourage fishing line disposal, which one of the audience members called “the best talk by a high schooler in 25 years of ANZMAC.” ➡️ Seeing so many great talks in the social marketing and social impact tracks (but wishing I could have been at all of them), and what looks to be an increasing trend in talks with a sustainability theme. ➡️ Our pre-conference research exchange with a crew from the state’s first and only behavioural science lab - thank you to #TasBeLab founders Swee-Hoon Chuah & Robert Hoffmann for hosting us, and to PhD students Bilal Mukhtar Amara Steven Emma Church Amber CY Tsai & Bassie Yizengaw Limenih for sharing their work with us. ➡️ Our Social Marketing @ Griffith team shared research that spanned a diversity of areas including veteran alcohol harm reduction, bullying, sustainable tourism, road safety, single-use plastic reduction, e-waste, turtle conservation, wildlife protection, sexual health, mobile app gamification, and industry engagement. Sharyn Rundle-Thiele Julia Carins Sameer Deshpande Alieena Mathew Sara Shawky Itca Istia Wahyuni Yue X. Sheikh Rahman ➡️ Naser Pourazad and Jody Evans cited my Phill Sherring & Sharyn Rundle-Thiele's conceptual paper on academic/practitioner collaboration AND put it on their slides! Big moment!🥹🤓😂 ➡️ Bo Pang & I presented on our project with Lauren S. on cat management for native bird conservation in Hawai'i; plus meeting project co-author Hassan Kalantari in person and being nerds in the photo booth. ➡️ Attending and presenting at the IMM B2B summit's special session on academic/practitioner collab (see previous post) ➡️ The inaugural trans-Tasman choc-off with our team & Dr Drew Franklin, to be replicated and expanded at ANZMAC Sydney 2025 🇦🇺 🍫 🇳🇿 🏆 (see other previous post) Fun times, great convos, and (re)connecting with so many, for starters…👋 👆 👇 🤙 Dr Jessica Pallant Dr Jason Pallant Ann-Marie Kennedy Joy Parkinson Ashleigh Powell Lukas Parker Sommer Kapitan Kim Feddema Paula Arbouw Joya Kemper Stephan Modest Mary Mackay Rico Piehler Skye Akbar Wiebke Finkler...to be continued in comments And finally, a lowlight: zero mentions (other than by me) of the brilliant show Deadloch (filmed in Tassie) or Neil the Seal (a local celebrity) 🦭 🤷

If you missed our session at ANZMAC , don’t worry - we’ve got you covered! Here’s a sneak peek into our ongoing work with digital humans as course assistants. Our research team has been experimenting with two AI avatars: John, the warm and empathetic guide, and Jack, the no-nonsense, professional type. The verdict? Students had mixed preferences, and we uncovered some fascinating insights into how AI can cater to diverse learning styles and needs. While this is still a work in progress, we’re happy to share that we’re developing a next-level platform with many custom features and a fantastic analytical dashboard (Google Analytics style). Let us know if you’d like to hear more! And as always, I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback in the comments; don’t hold back, unless it’s about John and Jack’s wardrobe choices. 😉 #AIinEducation #DigitalHumans #SelfDirectedLearning #ANZMAC2024 #FutureOfLearning
