Last Friday, WARRRL CEO Tim Cusack presented the Community Containers for Change Award at the Keep Australia Beautiful Council's annual Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards. As a sponsor, WARRRL proudly recognises and celebrates initiatives funded by 10¢ container refunds that make a positive impact in remote and regional communities. A big congratulations to this year’s winner, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder! The council’s sustainability and events teams introduced waste stations at major events throughout the year, helping attendees easily sort their waste and ensure 10¢ containers were captured and diverted from general waste bins. All refunds were donated to local community groups, supporting their activities and projects. We encourage local governments to implement more return points in public spaces, making it easier for ratepayers and visitors to participate in Containers for Change. Why not adopt our innovative Container Exchange Points? Simply attach them to general waste bins in public parks and high foot traffic areas. On Friday, WARRRL marked National Mining and Related Industries Day in The West Australian National Mining Day Magazine, calling on leaders in the sector to establish Containers for Change at mine sites across WA. The sector plays an enormous role in creating job opportunities for Western Australians, and WARRRL identified approximately 50 million unreturned containers in mine sites and villages visited by tens of thousands of workers flying in and out each week. Recycling these through Containers for Change presents a significant opportunity for organisations in the mining sector to achieve their ESG goals. Read the full feature below with WARRRL CEO Tim Cusack to learn about the success of Containers for Change at Eramurra, thanks to CITIC Pacific Mining and Sodexo, and discover how simple it is to get your mine sites on board. It’s officially been one year since the launch of our first standalone Self-serve Kiosk, powered by TOMRA. Starting with just three Kiosks in Perth’s northern suburbs, 16 of the 20 planned locations across Perth and Peel are now operational. Expanding our return point options forms part of our strategy in addressing access and convenience for Western Australians to Containers for Change, ensuring that returning 10¢ containers fits seamlessly into everyday life, no matter where you are. Here’s what we’ve learnt from the adopters of Self-serve Kiosks so far: * 31% of users were new to Containers for Change * 59% of existing users have reported an increase in their container return frequency, and * 65% of Kiosk users have expressed that they have or plan to incorporate a Kiosk into their regular shopping routine. This year’s National Recycling Week theme is ‘Join the Cycle’, asking Australians to reimagine and rethink their relationship with resources. By returning your 10¢ containers through Containers for Change, you’re joining a circular model for bottle to bottle recycling. We’re proud to work with Australian recyclers such as Martogg & Company, who provide an onshore recycling solution for PET that helps build a stronger circular economy in Australia. Watch our video below, showing how Martogg transforms 10¢ containers into high quality food-grade pellets, which are then used to create new resources, including new 10¢ drink containers. It’s very important for Australian businesses and manufacturers to buy local recycled material to ensure these recyclers continue to grow. We encourage the community to support local recyclers such as Martogg. https://lnkd.in/gnFFPgUp #nationalrecyclingweek #circulareconomy #containersforchangewa #containersforchange #containerdepositscheme

Today, Containers for Change took over the front and back pages of The Australian newspaper in celebration of Planet Ark's National Recycling Week, continuing to drive awareness of the importance of saving 10¢ containers at home and in the workplace. The full-page wrap includes an easy-to-use poster that readers can display in their workplaces to encourage their colleagues to collect and return containers. We know that nearly nine out of 10 people participate at home, yet two-thirds of employed Western Australians don't have a Containers for Change solution in their workplace. This poster has been created to help kick-start businesses on their container saving journey. Workplaces can use the 10¢ refunds for work social events or donate them to a worthy cause. It's their choice! It’s never been easier to get started. To amplify our message on the importance of implementing a Containers for Change solution in workplaces, we are front and centre in this week’s National Recycling Week liftout in The West Australian. WARRRL CEO Tim Cusack discusses how a significant number of 10¢ containers, such as water bottles, soft drinks, flavoured milk, and energy drinks, are consumed in the workplace. Tim also spoke to the importance of establishing a container separation point and how easily this can be done using a humble cardboard box or a bin from the Containers for Change online Shop. Today is the first day of Planet Ark’s National Recycling Week. At WARRRL, we kicked the week off by supporting Seven West Media’s Leadership Matters breakfast this morning, featuring guest speaker the Honourable Roger Cook MLA. As a Network Partner of Leadership Matters, we highlighted the importance of collecting 10¢ containers in the workplace to industry leaders and business decision-makers from some of WA’s largest organisations. Our goal was to educate those in the room on how adopting Containers for Change in the workplace can support their ESG goals and how easy it is to implement. While almost nine out of 10 people participate at home, two-thirds of employed Western Australians don't have a Containers for Change solution in their workplace. Help your employees reduce their environmental impact no matter where they are, with a circular model they know and trust. It’s a win for the environment and for businesses. Keep up to date on our LinkedIn as we share more initiatives on how to recycle your 10¢ containers in your workplace this National Recycling Week. #nationalrecyclingweek #circulareconomy #containersforchangewa #containersforchange #containerdepositscheme
