We asked male students about their role in ending violence against women. This is some of what they told us. We want to say a huge thank you for the men and boys who put themselves out there for these videos. Time and time again in our focus groups we heard men and boys of all ages, classes and cultures say that they have never spoken about violence against women. It takes an incredible amount of bravery to have those conversations on a public platform and we can’t thank these volunteers enough for it. Men and boys - if you do one thing today, be inspired by these boys and have these conversations too #welisten

Quinten Lynch, former AFL player for Collingwood Football Club and West Coast Eagles, joined us to tell us about his role model growing up and being a role model for others. Don’t stay silent this White Ribbon Month. Join our nation-wide conversation at https://lnkd.in/g_udF5Gz #welisten

In our recent focus groups, we asked men and boys about the barriers that might stop them from speaking up if they saw a woman experiencing violence, abuse or harassment. What they told us was that the biggest reasons for not intervening were fear, not thinking it’s their business and not knowing what they could do to help. When men and boys intervene, it sends the message that violence won’t be tolerated. We educate men and boys how to intervene. Today is the start of White Ribbon Month. This month we’re asking all men to join us in the start a nation-wide conversation where you talk and #welisten. We can learn so much by asking men and boys where they are at on the issue of violence and abuse against women. Throughout the month we'll be sharing videos and stories from real men and boys across Australia as they share their raw and authentic thoughts. Find out how you can get involved at https://lnkd.in/g_udF5Gz

Watch this space! Tomorrow we launch our White Ribbon Month campaign where we’ll be prompting men and boys across Australia to join us for a nation-wide conversation where you talk and #welisten. For too long women have been alone in championing ending violence against women. If we want change, we need men to walk alongside them. To do that, we need men and boys to be willing to talk about violence against women and the factors that drive it. From their role in ending violence against women, to their role models as young men, join us as we highlight the conversations we need all men across the country to have.

Saoirse Ronan’s recent moment on The Graham Norton Show captured an everyday reality for women: the constant consideration for safety. Her words, “that’s what women have to think about every day,” – it left the male guests in silence. Acting CEO, David Cain, believes this moment encapsulates the current involvement of men in the movement to end violence against women. Specifically, it demonstrates the gap between how men and women experience their safety, as well as the fact that men don’t know how to respond to the issue of violence against women This journey starts with a conversation. Ask yourself and your mates: How do you see your role in preventing violence against women? What are the barriers to speaking up? Let’s make safety everyone’s business.
