Last Thursday seven of our young planners attended Planning Institute of Australia NextGen Planner Summit. The event lived up to its theme of “Fostering Skills and Provoking Ideas”, with discussions from climate resilience to change management. A definite highlight of the day, our very own Tom Kennedy presented on the current challenges of community sentiment towards development. His presentation “Getting from No to Yes – Changing community perceptions of development” highlighted some of YIMBY Qld advocacy work in social and affordable housing and the Yes in Faith’s Backyard (YIFBY) movement, as well as our work on the Towards 2050: Cairns Growth Strategy project.
