We’re well into Homelessness Week, continuing the momentum from our successful Houses at Parliament event. Each night in Australia, 122,494 people experience homelessness, with 30,660 people being in Victoria. This year’s theme — Homelessness Action NOW! — is more crucial than ever. We stand with Homelessness Australia in calling for these crucial changes: increasing social housing to 10% of all housing, boosting funding for homelessness services, and raising income support payments to at least $80 a day. ✉ This week, your voice can make a difference. What an incredible day yesterday at the steps at Parliament! We’re thrilled to have united with politicians, housing support agencies, and community members to champion the need for 60,000 new homes in Victoria. Yesterday, 6,000 origami houses adorned the steps, and we’re excited to announce that we exceeded our goal of folding 60,000 houses across Victoria! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who crafted these pieces—you made this achievement possible. This event was a fantastic start to Homelessness Week. We were thrilled to be invited back to participate in a Kids In Philanthropy (kiP) workshop. KiP create bespoke volunteering programs for school aged children and their families, to meet the needs of disadvantaged young people around Australia. This time we attended Caulfield Grammar School and spoke to the Grade 6's about kindness and homelessness. The students prepared 'welcome home' hampers which will go directly to people and families who Wombat support. We were inundated with high quality donations from the Caufield Grammar students and their families and we cannot thank them and KiP enough!
