  • Last week, employers connected with female job seekers at a networking event hosted by Incolink and Building Futures. Incolink CEO Erik Locke joined special guest Patty Kinnersly, CEO of Our Watch to provide employers with the opportunity to connect with women seeking roles in construction. The event created a platform where women could engage directly with employers, exploring career opportunities and forming valuable connections. One of the event attendees successfully connected with an employer at the event. She is now joining their team as an apprentice. We’d like to thank the employers and job seekers who attended the event, and Patty Kinnersly for sharing her experience.

  • We often talk about how many careers are available in construction and there are many. With so many options picking a pathway to follow can be challenging.   Knowing what roles will be a good fit and how to get there can be daunting for students, parents and career practitioners. We've created a resource to support you to make that decision.    Based off the Government's Skills Priority List this resource will show you:   🏗️The in demand roles in the industry and what's involved  📖The skills education required 🏫The school subjects will help in the role    Flick through the guide below and on our website here: https://lnkd.in/gV9YsPE9 Our team are here to help, you can reach out to us at contact@womeninconstruction.com.au for support.

Step inside our women in trades workshop. 🔨 Our construction pathways program has supported females to enter the building and construction industry. Providing foundational trade skills training, the course has offered a clear pathway into apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships in various areas such as carpentry, wall and floor tiling, bricklaying, shopfitting, and painting and decorating.   Our broader women in trades training has been recognised over the last 12 months, including with the Industry Collaboration Award at both the Victorian Training Awards and Australian Training Awards for our Women in Apprenticeships Victoria Electrical Project (WAVE). • Last night we attended NORTHERN COLLEGE OF THE ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY (NCAT) ‘Bring It On’ event. The event is for Year 9, 10 and 11 female and non binary students, giving them a chance to meet with local employers and Industry to talk about what a career in construction could look like for them. Far too often, students don’t know about the diverse careers on offer in the industry. It was great to see so many families come along and engage with the panel. Randell Fuller spoke on behalf of the Building Industry Consultative Council about the Building Equality Policy and equal opportunity. Aaron from NPS Plumbing Solutions spoke about the importance of employing women and that one day it will be the norm to have equal representation in industry. It was a delight to hear from Rachel a parent of one of the current students at NCAT who spoke about the positive changes that she had seen in her daughter after getting the opportunity to attend NCAT. There was no shortage of young women genuinely interested in a career in construction. We were joined by a familiar face, Stephanie a 4th year carpentry at Hutchinson Builders who recently won their coveted Apprentice of the year award. Attendees are taken on a tour of NCAT by current students and women working in the industry. Thank you to everyone who came along and those who spoke so passionately about the industry.

  • With women accounting for only 15% of the construction workforce it's great to see that 14 have now started their careers in civil. Traineeships and projects like the North East Link set workers up for a long and successful career in the industry. Even though we have a long way to go, it's refreshing to hear that career practitioners are passionate about giving women a go in the industry no matter what stage they're at. We're looking forward to watching their journey and seeing where the program and this project takes them. There really is something for everyone in the construction industry.

Boosting opportunities for women in construction 👷♀️ Major Road Projects Victoria's M80 Ring Road Completion is creating stronger pathways for women to be part of Victoria’s Big Build, providing opportunities where they’re needed most and breaking down gender barriers in the industry. Last month our Careers and Skills team congratulated 14 women who will now begin new careers with project Alliance partner Acciona – which is receiving the program’s first intake of Civil Construction Traineeship Program recruits. “We’re committed to providing opportunities for women and girls, regardless of their experience, so they can reach their full potential within the construction sector.” says Careers and Skills Advisor, Cassie Jovan.
